It’s undoubtable that Uber’s success is largely due to it’s technological capabilities and ease of use. While many cab companies around the world are in the process of fighting Uber, Toronto based Beck Taxi has taken a different approach. Following the “If you can’t beat ’em join ’em” mentality, Beck has opted to launch a rival app of their own.
According to the Toronto Star, for the past several months, Beck has been working on an app that would give beck customers a more “Uber” like experience. The new app would show passengers a map with a real-time estimate on when cabs should arrive. The app reportedly will allow customers to know the taxi number of the cab before it arrives, and will be able to pay with a credit card or debit card through the app.
It’s going to be difficult for Beck to convert existing Uber users back over to Beck, but with a high level of controversy surrounding Uber, it seems as if Beck’s move in this direction will, according to sources close to Beck, give customers a “more legal” alternative to Uber. All it will take is some crazy Uber X driver to do something stupid and customers might start to consider the traditional cab companies again.
