With cold weather alerts on the rise, warm weather seems like a far distant future for Canada. If you’re looking for a sweet escape during these dreary days, a sunny destination is just a plane ride away!

Tips for Traveling during February

  • Many universities and colleges hold their Reading Weeks in February, so if you’re looking to avoid party crowds, try to avoid dates between February 15th and February 28th. You can also avoid students by booking at adult only, higher-star resorts or avoiding an all-inclusive. The cost is usually a deterrent to students, but you’ll pay a little extra for the peace and quiet.
  • Don’t forget, most airlines charge a fee of $25 or more for checked luggage, so pack light and take advantage of your carry-on and personal item. Bonus: Not bringing checked luggage means you’ll get through the airport faster.
  • When picking dates, remember that Tuesdays are typically the cheapest days to fly and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are typically the most expensive.

If you’re seeking warmth, try these destinations:

Varadero, Cuba

After comparing prices on RedTag, Cuba is the most budget-friendly. During February, Varadero’s temperatures are warm, but not too warm – the average high/low temperature is between 18°C and 28°C. Chances of rainfall are small with an estimated confinement of just 5 days for the month of February.

A 7-day stay at a 2.5-star all-inclusive resort start at around $755* (including flights from Toronto, taxes & fees) and prices rise to just over $1900* for a 5-star all-inclusive resort.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

A trip to the Dominican is our next hot spot to consider. Santo Domingo is one of the Caribbean’s oldest cities, with architecture dating back to the 1500s. Temperatures for the month of February range between 19°C and 30°C, making it the warmest destination on our list. Santo Domingo gets more rain than the other two destinations, though chances are still fairly low.

A 7-day stay at a 3-star resort starts at just under $1000* (including flights from Toronto, taxes and fees) and rise upwards to $1600* for a 4.5-star all inclusive resort.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta is the cheapest Mexican destination to travel to in February. Weather averages between 22°C and 29°C during the day, while temperatures drop to as low as 14°C at night. As the winter is quite dry in Mexico, there are very low chances of rain, chances are confined to 1 day.

As for pricing, a 7-day stay at a 3-star resort start at $1300* (including flights from Toronto, taxes and fees) and rise upwards to around $3000* for a 5-star all inclusive resort.

*All prices are from Redtag.ca as of January 19th and are subject to change. Prices are per person.
