Our friends at Uncle Otis have just recently released their third Canada Goose collaborative jacket. Staying true to both brands commitment to high-quality garments, the Canada Goose Black Label x Uncle Otis UO 25th Anniversary Travers Edition Black jacket is a sight to be seen. The new jacket uses the same silhouette as the popular Otis Parka (launched in 2014) and is featured in a stunning black colourway. We had an opportunity to catch up with the team at Uncle Otis to discuss the jacket and touch upon the Yorkville-based boutiques successful 25 years, and their amazing collaborative work with Canada Goose.
SD: You have done collaboration jackets with Canada Goose Before. What makes the relationship between Canada Goose and Uncle Otis so strong?
UO: The first year we started carrying Canada Goose was 2007 which was their 50th Anniversary. We were asked by them to carry their exclusive leather bomber only meant for a handful of top-tier accounts worldwide. Understanding we were a fit, we continued to work with each other, valuing each other’s ideas, quality, and product. We’ve even had the opportunity to be one of the only collaborators to do things like change pocket designs on an existing silhouette, and that doesn’t happen very often at all.
SD: Have you ever thought of working with another Canadian outerwear brand? What drives you to continue working with Canada Goose?
UO: When you look at the designs coming out of other Canadian outerwear brands, in my opinion, they are trying too hard with overdoing the design aspect. However, with Canada Goose I appreciate that the brand isn’t trying to re-invent the wheel on their designs; for the most part they keep their designs very timeless – plus their production is kept in Canada.
SD: For customers that may not be aware, why did you decide to launch this newest Canada Goose Collaboration?
UO: This is our third project with Canada Goose, and this jacket was to commemorate our 25th Anniversary. Needless to say, we are very excited about it
SD: Can you tell us a little about the new jacket? What are the new features? What differentiates the new jacket from previous models?
UO: We’ve kept it pretty minimal; for us when a product is already amazing, you don’t need to change much. That’s why we’ve gone all black with a nylon herringbone exterior. We’ve maintained the silhouette of our Canada Goose jacket in 2014, with an introduction of a unique 3 way front pocket structure.
SD: What is it like working with Canada Goose? How much input did Uncle Otis have in the design process?
UO: It’s an honour to work with Canada Goose, and their design team. As mentioned, they don’t try to re-invent the wheel on outerwear and so our job is to bring our simple Uncle Otis minimalism to our projects.
SD: How does working with a great Canadian brand like Canada Goose help your store?
UO: It certainly elevates our product mix with having an exclusive jacket that you can’t get anywhere else in the world. Plus with the globally established name they represent, it helps us reach a whole new customer from abroad who perhaps wouldn’t have heard of us previously.
SD: 25 Years being a retailer in Toronto is an impressive feat. What do you credit your stores success to?
UO: Exceptional customer service combined with some of the best men’s fine fashion from around the world. We take a lot of pride in what we do and I believe customers can see that when they have an experience at Uncle Otis.
With a price tag of $1,200, you can pick up the limited edition jacket in-store at Uncle Otis, or online.
