The Peacock Parade, known for their amazing online only sales and their amazing product selection, has become one of Canada’s go-to online destinations for great fashion finds. They’ve searched far and wide, to bring their members limited-time, daily sales on designer goodies.

In our continued effort to help our readers discover the best places to shop, we were extremely happy to finally get the chance to sit down with and interview Nancy Sahota and Jan Gandhi the founders of The Peacock Parade.

SD: We usually like to start off with a background, so if someone has
never heard of your website before, how would you explain it?

Nancy: The Peacock Parade is an exclusive online boutique where members have
access to coveted designer and contemporary merchandise at up to 80%
off retail prices. A new sale launches every day at 11am EST, and each
sale lasts for five to seven days. Quantities are limited, so once an
item is sold out, members may never see it again, other than on their
enviable friend.

SD: For our readers that have never shopped with Peacock Parade before –
As far as shopping experience goes, what can people expect?

Jan: They can expect to see a great selection of merchandise from brands
that they know and love while also discovering new brands that have a
great following.   Our merchandise comes from around the world but
because we lived in New York for a number of years, we curate a lot of
the merchandise from there. We also make it a priority to support
Canadian designers and often feature Canadian pieces on our site. Our
brand promise is to offer a curated selection of quality pieces at
amazing prices right here in Canada. We eliminate the headache and
costs associated with cross border shopping because we deliver the
merchandise right at doorsteps of Canadian women and don’t surprise
them with extra charges.

Nancy: We also photograph the merchandise you see on the site and always have
a great editorial to market the sale and capture the essence of the
brand. This has always been very important to us.  We make every
effort to ensure that our members feel as if they’ve shopped at a high-end retailer and got the deal of their life.

SD: How did you come up with the name, The Peacock Parade and can you
briefly describe how/ why you came up with the initial idea for
Peacock Parade?

Jan: Our mantra is “Life is a Parade, Attend in Style.” We want to empower
women to look and feel their best, so that they can live their lives
with confidence. This philosophy influences product selection,
merchandising strategy and website design, all of which ensure that
customers get a premium experience while attaining access to designer
and contemporary merchandise at affordable “members-only” prices.  We
needed a name that captured all of this and The Peacock Parade just
seemed to work!

Nancy: We came up with the idea to launch The Peacock Parade after shopping
on similar sites in the US.  We both lived and met in NYC where all of
our friends shopped this way.  It’s easy, convenient and you get a
great deal on a coveted item, who doesn’t love that?!!!  We saw a huge
void in the Canadian market and decided to move back and launch our
business.  And here we are, two years later.  Hard to believe that two
years has already gone by, feels like yesterday that we launched!

SD: There many options for “flash shopping” can you explain how PP is
different? What kind of designers/items do you carry?

Nancy: We are based in Canada so that is a huge difference between us and
most of our competitors that are based in the US. We take care of
getting the merchandise across the border, incur the duties and
shipping charges and allow Canadians to return merchandise.  We also have competitive shipping rates and we are faster when it comes to getting merchandise into the hands of customers.

With respect to Canadian competitors, we target an aspirational customer who enjoys quality merchandise but may not have the budget to purchase items from brands that offer the level of quality she is looking for.  Other sites target a moderate customer and don’t carry the same brands as we do, especially when it comes to the contemporary brands like Rebecca Minkoff, Splendid, Nicole Miller, Cynthia Rowley, Sam Edelman, Ted Baker…and the list goes on!

Jan: We also have sales that include designer brands like Prada, Gucci,
Fendi, Versace and Givenchy!  These are always very popular.

SD: You have great brands on your site, how do you refine and choose what
brands go online?

Nancy: We do a lot of market research and it definitely helps that we are
also our target demographic.  We live and breathe fashion and we can
relate to the consumer we are speaking to.
We also use the data we’ve collected on our site.  We have almost two
years under our belt and therefore have a lot of information on buying
behaviour.

SD: Do you Shop Peacock?  What’s been your favourite thing you’ve got from
your own site?

Nancy/ Jan: Of course!

Nancy: My favourite items include my three pairs of Brian Atwood shoes and
my Tom Ford shades! I also really love my Missoni scarf…and there is
my Black Halo dress!  I really don’t have a favourite…I love it all!

Jan: My favourite items include my Denis Gagnon printed pants, my
Prada shoes, my Chloe sunglasses, my House of Harlow clutch and my
Line Knitwear cosy wrap sweaters.

SD: Do you think you’ll ever expand into menswear?

Jan: That’s definitely a possibility.

SD: What are some of the trends you are seeing in the online fashion
shopping sphere?

Nancy: We are seeing greater personalization and customization to enhance the
shopping experience.  We would love to do this in the future since we
do have some great information on the taste preferences of our
customers.

SD: What can our readers expect to see from Peacock Parade in the future?
