Get ready London, Ontario, because you are finally getting an Ikea! Not just any Ikea either. The new location will be a part of a new concept the Swedish furniture retailer is testing out in Canadian waters. Earlier this year, we reported that Ikea Canada’s president, Stefan Sjöstrand, had plans to make the brand more accessible by leveraging new technologies and offering new services, and we’re finally about to see the results of the new direction.

The new London, Ontario location will be Ikea’s smallest retail location to date – sitting at 20,000-square-feet. To put that into perspective, the average Ikea is around 300,000-square-feet and North America’s largest Ikea (located in Montreal) is 469,694-square-feet. The new location will employ 20 people and host a limited number of items for purchase and immediate takeaway, 10 tablets for customers to browse and buy on www.IKEA.com, and will offer services such as merchandise pick-up, home delivery, furniture assembly, planning, returns and exchanges, and online sales support. Aesthetically, the store will feature five bathroom displays, four kitchen displays, three bedroom displays, four PAX wardrobe displays, and 75 home furnishings displays.

The new concept store is expected to open in late 2015 and will be located at 3198 Wonderland Rd. S. The new location will bring Ikea’s store count up to 13 locations in total.

Are you excited that Ikea Canada will open in London, Ontario?

There was information omitted in this report. The fact that shipping charges will be part of the purchase price. Why don’t they build a DC in London to service southwestern Ontario?
