This week, Montreal designer, Travis Taddeo will be returning to Toronto’s runway at World MasterCard Fashion week to showcase his Spring/Summer collection and celebrate his label’s 5th anniversary. Presenting tonight, the Matinee collection will carry on the same urban, edgy, minimalistic fashion-forward aesthetic that Travis Taddeo is known for. With live music by Ryan Playground, the show is said to bring the audience into an entwined world of art, fashion and music, presenting an authentic reflection of Travis Taddeo. We got to chat with the designer and find out about this season’s exciting collaboration, what inspired the collection and where he likes to hang out when he’s in town. Check it out below!

SD: Who wears Travis Taddeo?

Travis Taddeo: A Travis Taddeo client is someone who values originality, quality, comfort, versatility, and edge.

SD: What was the inspiration behind your S/S 14 collection?

Travis Taddeo: The morning. A big white bed, first ray of light, the bedroom ambiance.

SD: I loved the leather harness accessories you featured in your last S/S collection. What are some key trends/accessories we can expect to see in your new collection?

Travis Taddeo: This season our collaboration with Aldo and Accessories by KAVUT allowed us to finalize the looks by creating the perfect shoe and the perfect accessories. The baseball cap is also a constant throughout the collection.

SD: What are you most excited for this World MasterCard Fashion Week?

Travis Taddeo: To present the collection and to celebrate with my amazing team!

SD: Who are some of your personal favourite designers?

Travis Taddeo: Calvin Klein 1990, Helmut Lang early 2000’s, Tom Ford for Gucci revival and anybody with a mega yacht!

SD: Would you say there is any one person who has helped/inspired you to get where you are today?

Travis Taddeo: My partner, Raphael.

SD: Do you have any advice for someone looking to get into fashion design?

Travis Taddeo: Yes, I do. Intern at a place where you truly admire their style even if you’re not obliged to.

SD: Last S/S, you collaborated with Aldo Rise for a men’s footwear collection. What was your favourite thing about working with Aldo? Would you ever consider a women’s footwear collection?

Travis Taddeo: The best part about working with Aldo is the freedom to create. Their team really understands how to make an idea come to fruition. This season we worked on a unisex sandal, in future seasons I’d love to design a shoe for women.

SD: Who is someone you would love to collaborate with in the future?

Travis Taddeo: I’d love to collaborate in the future with the WHY team.

SD: You’re based in Montreal. What do you like about coming to Toronto? Do you have any personal hot spots that you like to hit up while you’re in town?

Travis Taddeo: WMCFW is truly the greatest platform in Canada for a fashion designer to showcase. I like how organized, professional and dedicated the Toronto teams are. In terms of hot spots I pretty much just hang out in Yorkville and anywhere my good friend Noriko Kasai wants to take me!
