The outdoor recreation store, MEC or Mountain Equipment Co-Op is closing their King Street West location in Toronto. The closure is planned for 2017 and the store will relocate north of the current location to Queen Street West and Soho Street. BlogTO reports that the new location will be two storeys with an underground parking lot and similar in size to the current King Street West store. The company has plans to keep the King Street West location open during the move.

Last year, our contributor Retail-Insider spoke with MEC’s CFO about their Toronto expansion. MEC had plans to build a 2nd Toronto location in North York. MEC received final approval to develop a new location earlier this year, and the second location, which will sit at a whopping 42,000 square feet, is set to open in the spring of 2016.

What do you think will replace the King Street Mountain Equipment Co-op?
