Loblaw Companies LTD – Canada’s largest supermarket chain has announced massive plans for expansion. Lowblaw will open 50 new stores and improve over 100 location by the end of 2015. The new stores will pop – up country wide, and will reportedly bring 5,000 new jobs to the company.

The expansion comes from a new total internal investment of $1.2 billion, and will not only go into building and improving stores, but will help secure Loblaw’s e-commerce offering and improve supply chain and IT infrastructure.

The strategy for in-store improvements includes opening 50 more Joe Fresh locations, making shopping at Loblaw a one – stop weekend destination.

Additionally $1.2 billion investment will go into improving Shopper’s Drug Mart locations. Select new Shopper’s locations will provide shoppers with fresh food and ready to go meal options.
