Earlier this week, Ikea confirmed that they would be bringing their in-store Scandinavian candy shops to their Canadian locations this fall. The in-store sweet shops are called Pick and Mix and are inspired by a Scandinavian tradition in which children were allowed to visit the local store every Saturday for a bag of candy. ‘Lördagsgodis’ or ‘Saturday candy’ has “grown to include any day of the week when children and adults alike splurge on a special sweet treat,” an Ikea representative told the Toronto Star.
Pick and Mix candy shops launched earlier this year in the United States on June 22. Though the prices for the Canadian stores have yet to be announced, candies in the U.S go for $7.99 per pound and are made up of gummies, marshmallow, licorice, chocolate and sours, all made from Swedish recipes. A representative also told the Toronto Star that all candies will be free of high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, and GMOs.
