The Toronto Star is reporting that PJ’s Pets and Pets Unlimited stores are going to close permanently, and have already begun the process of selling off inventory.

Vice-president of PJ’s Pets – Brad Hamilton is quoted in a recent press release saying “We are saddened to say that we are closing our doors after almost 50 years of serving the pet community across Canada.”

The chain has suffered from the increase of online pet vendors, and from the prevalence of pet food sold at big box retailers.

For over 50 years, PJ’s Pets has been a go to neighbourhood location for consumers who wanted products for their pets.  While the changing tides of retail make it difficult for many retailers, we are a little bummed that another longstanding Canadian retailer is going under.
