With the announcement yesterday of Pharrell Williams partnership with Adidas, the German footwear brand now boasts a roster of some of the most talented footwear minds in the world. In the past two years, the brand has amassed an Avengers-like team of creatives including: Kanye West, Jeremy Scott, Yohji Yamamoto, Nigo, Raf Simons, Rick Owens and now Pharrell. With a focus of providing high end athletic wear and tapping into the luxury sneaker market Adidas could just be the biggest thing in shoes by the end of 2015.
While brands like Nike still overshadow Adidas, The upcoming World Cup in brazil (where Adidas is the only major athletic goods sponsor) might give Adidas the second wind in sales the company is looking for.
We aren’t really expecting Adidas to surpass Nike anytime soon. However we are expecting that the most talked about shoes in late 2014 and early 2015 won’t be designed in Portland.
