Since 2003, Fresh Collective has been offering Torontonians a fresh take on buying clothing. The StyleDemocracy team recently had the opportunity to chat with Fresh Collective owner and founder, Laura-Jean Bernhardson, to get the scoop on how she began and some of the amazing services they offer.


Laura-Jean began Fresh Collective as a fashion designer looking for an outlet to sell directly to her customers. She began what she describes as a shared retail space; providing retail space to other local designers to lower the overhead, while delivering them the same opportunity of selling directly to their customer. As Fresh Collective grew, the shared retail space became a retail framework. A little over a year ago, Laura-Jean decided to retire her line in order to give her full attention to the business and retail side.

fresh-collective-9Though the focus at Fresh Collective is Canadian labels, they specialize in Toronto designers such as Mandala Designs, Paper People Clothing and 25-30 other local designers. Fresh Collective’s main goal is to “provide the best of the best Canadian fashion market to their customers,” through experienced sales assistants and quality garments with great fit. So, if you’re a woman who’s constantly on the go and looking for clothes that work for your life and body type, then Fresh Collective is for you.


To add to their already attentive customer service, Fresh Collective offers a variety of wardrobe makeover services for the women with a closet full of clothing, but nothing to wear. They host private “Shop the Store” Wardrobe Makeover parties, which you can book for 3-6 of your closest gal pals. Don’t worry about working up an appetite while you’re trying on clothes – they provide delicious snacks and beverages because they know that food and clothing is the key to (almost every) girl’s heart!

In the future, Laura-Jean’s goal is to continue providing women with culture rather than just a shopping experience and her dream is to expand Fresh Collective to 100 stores, “only 97 more to go” she laughs.
