Toronto’s Junction has always been a destination for design enthusiasts. Now it is also the home to one of the newest, made in Toronto menswear stores in town, Gerhard Supply.  Owned and operated by Langton Willms, Gerhard Supply was built as a destination for men to easily access Toronto designed & manufactured garments.  “It was one of my big pet peeves was I had to constantly look at the care labels on clothes and find out where it was made, I wanted to make something to solve that problem and also support the local industry,” Langton explains.

Gerhard Supply carries a variety of locally designed brands such as Outclass, Muttonhead Collective, OSC cross, 18 waits and in-store exclusives by Philip Sparks. The only exceptions to the Toronto made and designed rule are umbrellas from The Umbrella shop, which are made in Vancouver. The shop also stocks personal care products from Province Apothecary and Crown Shaving Company.

Aside from curating some of Toronto’s best menswear, Langton is also a great supporter of the neighborhood, participating in various community based art festivals. “I work with a lot with local artists as well. Everything in the store, I try to focus on the community, and how to pick up everyone from different disciplines – not just clothing. I feature local artists. All the art I have on my walls is always rotating.” Supporting the community is especially important in the Junction as it plays host to a number of community-based festivals like The Junction Design Crawl and most recently, the Toronto Design Offsite festival.

In a neighbourhood that mostly dominated by furniture and design stores, Gerhard Supply is definitely a breath of fresh air. After only being open for 10 months, Gerhard Supply has already been voted one of the best new fashion stores in Toronto on BlogTo and voted Best Men’s clothing store in Now Magazine. Clearly, Langton is doing something right.
