Shop Spotlight: THE TEN SPOT
When it comes to getting pampered, there are few and far beauty spas between ones that satisfy our indulgences quite like our next spotlight. If you live in Toronto, you’ve definitely seen THE TEN SPOT in your hood. In just 8 short years, the business that started off as a late night idea over pie has taken precedence over hundreds of spas scattered across the city – scoring not one, but five “Best Of” nail & beauty spa awards and has won over the hearts of beauty mavens across Ontario.
Their service menu covers eight categories: Facials ($45-$75), manicures ($8-$45), pedicures ($10-$65), Waxes ($12-$50), Tinting/Threading ($12-$25), gent grooming ($25-$75), gent waxing ($12-$40) and freebies which consist of lash consultations, toe waxes (free with pedicures), and skin analysis’. Though the services aren’t unlike other spas, THE TEN SPOT’s business is structured around being an “anti-spa” and it’s also the secret to what has made the franchise so successful. “We have a strong commitment to exceptional guest care along with strict cleanliness standards. But at the end of the day, we want to make sure everyone has an enjoyable, memorable experience. Our Esthetic Experts come to know a whole lot more than what’s going on with your lady goods—they also become quite in tune with your personal life. They’ve also been known to claim instant best-friend status!” Kristen Wood, owner and CEO of THE TEN SPOT tells us. Customers are also provided with iPads and free wifi to make for an even more pleasing guest experience.
Each 10Spot staff or Esthetic Expert goes through in-house training with 10Spot U – they soak up all the culture and are trained on the detailed protocols that make up THE TEN SPOT’s services, one of which is their strict hygiene standards. You could call THE TEN SPOT the OCD beauty bar you never knew you longed for. They always sterilizes surfaces, never double dips wax sticks, never reuse nail files or buffers, and they definitely do not house any pedicure sinks with jets (which breed yucky bacteria). They’re also not shy to tell you why they’re the best, and we can appreciate their confidence!
With 15 locations and counting (their first out-of-province location opens in Kelowna, BC in 2015), an in-house beauty line called GET NAILED® that features nail lacquers and a body scrub, Wood’s goal for THE TEN SPOT is to become the Starbucks of the beauty world and they are well on track.
