Head on over to the lower west side of Toronto and you’ll find a slew restaurants, antique stores, coffee shops and boutiques filled with unique treasures and awesome finds. Parkdale may not be your number 1 destination for fashion, but our next spotlight might just change your mind.

The Future of Frances Watson is an independent clothing shop for men and women that opened 3 years ago by Kerry Butt and Meg Watson – two friends looking to escape upper management in order to build their own little retail empire. The shop was named after each of their grandmothers and describes a, “bad a** Strong Woman from a 1940s Circus – A super woman, if you will.” And I must admit – The Future of Frances Watson is super bad a**.

The shop has a rustic vibe with an amazing flow. Merchandising comes naturally to the shop owners as Meg was a stylist and Kerry as a merchandiser before opening Frances Watson. Reclaimed wood shelves, ladders and racks finished with industrial pipes line the walls, which are filled with local menswear favourites such as Outclass and 18 waits, and choice denim brands like Naked and Famous, Levi’s and more. Make your way further down the shop and you’ll find kitschy gifts and apothecary like TokyoMilk fragrance and skincare – the Tainted Love Shea butter hand cream is a personal fav. Mosey on a little further and you’ll find yourself in their ladies section, which features an impressive selection of denim like Nudie, Levi’s, Courtshop, Cheap Monday and contemporary lines like Libertine Libertine and Henrik Vibskov.

During my visit, I actually walked away with two pairs of denim and I’m definitely not the only one who enjoys the shop. The Future of Frances Watson attracts a huge variety of men and women, and has certainly become a Parkdale favourite. To learn more about The Future of Frances Watson, check them out on their:
