Earlier this year, Target announced they would be leaving Canada and today, CBC News has obtained internal company emails stating that liquidation sales will begin this Thursday – right on schedule! The company, which will be closing 133 locations Canada-wide, is seeking court approval for a group of liquidation companies to sell off all store inventory, including fixtures, store furnishings and equipment. Molly Snyder, a Target spokeswoman confirmed with CBC News that if all goes as planned, “Target Canada expects that liquidation would begin within a few days.”
According to the internal emails obtained by CBC News, Target Canada is expecting a huge rush of customers to flock stores. “Thursday will be like Black Friday,” a Target Human Resources employee said in an email to staff. The same email states that “all hands” must be “on deck” to help ring through purchases and unload new cargo because trucks will be arriving more often, packed with products! That’s right, say goodbye to empty shelves because for a limited-time, there will be truckloads of fresh product until it’s all sold out! In a press release issued earlier this year, Target Canada stated that the liquidation process would take approximately 16-20 weeks, meaning we will see stores closing as early as Spring. The closures leave 15-million-square-feet of space behind. Though no retailers are confirmed to take over the locations, there are a number of retailers who are rumoured to step up to the plate.
