According to Retail-Insider.com, The Bay on Queen will be going under a major overhaul to make the store more profitable.

The Flagship Hudson’s Bay store at Queen & Yonge Street in Toronto will see the addition of a more robust menswear department, as well as an expanded women’s shoe department.  The two new men’s areas will be located on the lower and second-levels, while the new and expanded women’s footwear department will be located on the store’s west-end ground floor (it’s going to replace the area where all the Men’s accessories and ties currently are – closest to Bay street).

This new layout will try to attract passer-by shoppers as the store’s basement “path” level  will be changed from home/food to “less-expensive” menswear brands. As well as giving women easy access to the footwear department which typically has some of the highest retail margins. The store’s second floor will house the “White Space” and “West End Shop” , The Bay’s designer menswear departments.

With huge portions of floor space dedicated to women’s footwear in stores like Holt Renfrew, Barneys and Nordstrom it’s not surprising to see the Bay follow suit.

I’ve always thought there was kind of a whole is the menswear that department stores offer (other than holts) so it’s nice to see The Bay kicking it up a notch!
