There is no doubt in our minds when we say that the Ossington strip is one of our favourite spots in Toronto. Whether you’re looking for good eats, fun bars, or unique shops, Ossington really has it all. That’s why, when we passed by Tiger of Sweden, we knew we had to learn more.

The shop opened last year in March and with it came a little taste of Europe, “I love that people can come in here whether they’ve heard of us or just walked by and they can experience a little part of Scandinavia in the store, whether it be the design or the friendly staff. We love dressing people up and having them really feel the brand. It’s not just about looking at it or thinking, ‘oh, that’s nice,’ but when you put it on, you can really appreciate the quality, the fit, and why it’s unique and new to the city.” Darryl Haas, manager of Tiger of Sweden, tells us.

Tiger of Sweden was founded in 1903 by Swedish tailor’s, Markus Schwarmann and Hjalmar Nordström. They currently have two shops in Canada; Montreal and Toronto, and flagship stores across Europe. Though they started off in classic men’s suiting, today, they are much more than that. “Tiger of Sweden is built on a different cut. We say that we do suiting and denim, but what we really specialize in is taking the suiting and denim outside of the workplace and into the streets.” The store carries both men and women’s clothing and has quickly become popular amongst the business and fashion conscious workers of Toronto. “[Tiger of Sweden] is a destination to shop for work and for pieces that will intermix with stuff you already own in your wardrobe. [You can find] an outfit that’s comfortable, yet stylish enough for a meeting at work, all day wear,  dinner and then networking over drinks. It’s 24/7 suiting.” Darryl explains.

Pulling on the heart strings of Ossington’s art community, Tiger of Sweden often draws inspiration from artists – such as Andy Warhol for their Spring/Summer ’13 collection – and typically features 1-3 key prints per season. Every collection is made of find italian fabrics, providing perfect fit, quality and are made to last. Along with the Tiger of Sweden line comes Tiger Jeans, which the company began pushing in 2003. The denim collection is all stone washed and hails from Italy. The line comes at a lower price point, but is still fashion forward and trendy. It is also so comfortable that it was featured in a series in Stockholm, called ‘Dancing in our Denim.’  “It is definitely denim you can sleep in,” laughs Darryl.
