The world of luxury goods and designer handbags specifically are a large part of the vast fashion industry. The urge to own a designer bag, whether priced from $300 to $3000 is at heart for most women (and men) around. Owning a beautifully crafted piece of luxury leather can make someone feel like Kimmie K. while carrying their own Hermès Birkin bag!

But amongst the population of these ultra-expensive bags are some even more ridiculous priced ones – ranging from the tens of thousands up to the hundreds of thousands! They are usually crafted in exotic skins like python, ostrich, crocodile, and even alligator. So if you’re wondering what exactly some of those bags are, take a look at 10 of the most expensive handbags we found from around the world.

1. The Row Alligator Backpack – $39,000

Released a few years ago, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen’s couture line The Row produced a super high-priced alligator version of their classic backpack. But when thinking about an item of this prestige, you may wonder how much such a bag would cost. My guess would have been about $15 000, but boy was I off! The bag costs a whopping $39,000! When first introduced in 2011, it sold out within only a few months. Unfortunately the price has skyrocketed, but if you’d still like to get your hands on it, you can purchase it from online designer marketplace Farfetch here for a cool $60,000.

2. Prada Ostrich Double Bag Tote – $9,600

New for the spring and crafted into one of their newest styles this year, Prada’s Double Bag tote in ostrich is divine. Priced at $9,600, it’s quite pricey, but still doesn’t hit the double digits! Offered in various different colour ways with contrasting coloured leather lining, this tote is a showstopper. Prada continues to offer classy & elegant designs every single season! The tote can be purchased here on See how the Double Bag is crafted below.

3. Gucci 1921 Collection Crocodile Jackie Bag – $30,900

Still going strong, Gucci’s 90th anniversary collection features classic pieces that are reinvented & inspired by what their brand originally created. One of their all time classics, the Jackie bag, was reinvented in stunning crocodile skin. Priced fairly high at over $30 000, the bag is crafted in mysterious dark green croc with their classic bamboo tassel as a charm. It can be pre-ordered on here, as they are handcrafted and most likely made-to-order.

4. Fendi Large Calf Hair Peekaboo Bag – $7,580

One of their classic bags, refreshed & now currently an it-bag in the fashion world today, Fendi’s Peekaboo bag is awesome! They offer the bag in a variety of materials and sizes – you can even get one custom made! They start around $2000 to $3000 in regular leather, but are constantly reimagined in limited edition leathers. The Peekaboo bag pictured above was created for spring/summer in an amazing printed calf hair, lined with matching printed goat leather, and detailed with tortoise enamel. It’s available online at Neiman Marcus for just around $7500 – but hurry, there are only a couple left in stock! See how the Fendi Peekaboo bag is made in the video below.

5. Saint Laurent Paris Crocodile Sac De Jour – $29,000

While Saint Laurent typically sells a croc-embossed version of their newest it-bag, which can always be found on a slew of A-list celebs’ arms, the above one-of-a-kind authentic crocodile version was previously sold at their Chicago flagship. Being that it was so rare, it was only inevitable that it would be stolen right from their shop! So unfortunately for all of you lusting for this bag in real croc skin, it’s no longer for purchase – however, you can actually buy the alligator version for a few thousand dollars more here on

6. Hermès Men’s Steve Bag – $8,185

Known for their atrociously high prices but amazing craftsmanship, Hermès is one of the most prestigious brands in the world. With bags ranging in the hundreds of thousands in price, it’s no surprise that a simple leather messenger would cost almost $10k. All of their products are hand stitched and crafted by skilled artisans who go to school to learn their skills. This rare men’s messenger is an example of their excellent dexterity and of course beautiful craftsmanship! The men’s Steve bag is available now on their website here. Get it before it goes as it is a rare item, alike most of their products!

7. Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork Bag – $45,000

Released in 2007, this bag was talked about all over the Internet as the most expensive handbag. There are some much farther north in cost, yet it is known to be the most expensive Louis Vuitton bag with such a high-ticketed price. Marc Jacobs created it for Louis Vuitton’s SS 2007 cruise collection and is made up of 14 different bags. It’s quite interesting – and not totally appealing – but a collector’s piece nonetheless. 1 of the only 24 made is available for purchase for $60,000 on eBay here in its original collectors case. Snatch it up before it’s gone and you can look just like Beyoncé who has been seen with one of these limited treasures!

8. Lana Marks Cleopatra Clutch – $250,000

One of the most famous clutches in the world, it is said that the Cleopatra is only allowed to be worn by one celebrity each year, to the largest awards nights (like the Oscars or the Grammys). It is crafted out of metallic silver tanned alligator skin and the signature closure made out of 1,500 black and white diamonds and is set in a 18-carat white gold frame. The clutch is a marvel, and a crazy price at that. If you wish to inquire about the bag, or any other Lana Marks bags, you can do so at her website here.

9. Chanel Diamond Forever Classic Flap Bag – $261,000

Created back in 2007, this ultra-limited edition Chanel bag almost tops as the most expensive bags, and only 13 were made. Similar to the Lana Marks bag, it is crafted in the same materials; 3.56 carats of 344 diamonds, 18 carat white gold hardware, and white alligator leather. It truly takes on it’s name as the classic CC clasp sparkles, and takes the classic look of Chanel’s namesake bag to the next level. Unfortunately, all of the bags have sold out but Chanel still sells the alligator-only alternative, for about $54,000. Give a boutique a visit and see for yourself!

10. Hermès Diamond Porosus Crocodile Birkin Bag – $140,000

The Birkin is the true It-bag of all bags, but being made in crocodile skin with diamond-encrusted white gold hardware just ups the ante so much more. Although this bag is still available to be purchased, it is so rare to come by and would take years to attain unless purchased through other means. The bag may not be the most expensive one in the world, but it is the only bag that holds the most prestige out of any others. There is one currently available on eBay here and somehow is about $40,000 below the price, but start bidding because someone just might snatch it! See how an Hermès bag is made below.
