Toronto will soon join the likes of London, Los Angeles, Florence, Milan, Paris, Singapore, and Vancouver, becoming the eighth international city to host a men’s fashion week. Dubbed TOM*, the event – to take place August 11-15, 2014 – hopes to establish itself as the the axis for North American menswear design in the same way that London and Milan have become hubs in Europe. TOM* will feature runway presentations from an impressive range of designers such as World MasterCard Fashion Week alum Christopher Bates, Farley Chatto, and Hussein Dhalla‘s HD Homme as well as Arts & Fashion Week Toronto affiliates Benji WZW, Diodati by Luca Galardo, L’uomo Strano by Mic. Carter, and Worth by David C. Wigley. In addition to designer shows, the week will offer unique exhibits, men’s shopping spaces, men’s lounges, and exclusive meet-and-greet opportunities for guests. Toronto’s first fashion week for men will also provide a valuable platform for lesser known local design talent via its collaboration with Toronto Fashion Incubator‘s Designer Menswear Fund. In pairing with TFI, TOM* will host the Emerging Menswear Design Award competition which will see five young finalists present their collections on August 15. Runway presentations will take place August 12 though 14 at the The Fairmont Royal York Hotel. For more information on TOM*, visit their website here.
