Now that the shows are over and the cameras are put away, it’s time to take a step back and digest this year’s edition of World MasterCard Fashion week and Spring/Summer trends. This year, we saw a huge range of strong collections from talented Canadians designers such as Lacerda, Travis Taddeo & JNBY. Each collection displayed designer’s individual takes on present trends, while also initiating new ones.

Here are the three trends we think are worth knowing and wearing from World MasterCard Fashion Week.

1. Transparency

Soft, seductive and feminine at the same time, Canadian designers of WMCFW embraced their dainty side by presenting a variety of sheer tops & blouses in delicate colours such as cream & sky blue. Not for the faint of heart, start doing those crunches now if you’re looking to try this trend come spring!

2. Atypical Leather

From leather tees & tanks to harnesses & vests, the way we wear leather is changing. Although a healthy dose of  leather is nothing new, the trend is being re-imagined and incorporated into pieces you can mix & match with your existing wardrobe. If you’re looking to stand out come spring, this is the trend for you.

3. Shades of Green

Move over orange, there’s a new colour in town this season. This year, we saw an abundance of green in multiple shades including mint, forest and mermaid. Brands such as Soia & Kyo, NARCES and Mackage took full advantage of the budding trend, incorporating it into a range of pieces from trench coats to an exquisite evening dress. Get ahead of the curve by incorporating pops of green in your wardrobe now with winter accessories such as toques or scarfs.
