Yesterday, in an effort to monetize their popular social media network – Twitter announced that it will begin to test out a new “buy” button. The new button will allow users to make purchases from a brand or company’s twitter feed without having to leave the social network. The entire checkout process will be completed through twitter, with a tiny buy drop down menu appearing when you click the “buy” button.

For now the “buy” button will only appear on a small number of twitter profiles and will only be available in the U.S., but the company has plans on rapid expansion and to make the “buy” button available through their desktop site as well.  We assume twitter will be taking a cut of each item sold, but we aren’t 100% sure how the whole thing will play out.
