Just as Target Canada gets ready to pack up their bags and go, Walmart Canada is planning a huge expansion! Today, CBC News reported that Walmart plans to add 29 new supercentre stores in Canada over the next year. The expansion will cost approximately $340 million, creating a total of 5000 jobs: 3700 construction jobs, 1000 in-store positions and 300 new positions at distribution centres. The supercentres will include everything from clothing, office supplies, groceries and homewares to vision centres, photo centres and portrait studios.

The new supercentres will take Walmart’s store count up to 396 locations across Canada by the end of January 2016. Earlier this year, many industry analysts put their bets on Walmart as a potential retailer that could take over Target locations however, the locations of specific stores and distribution centre projects will not be announced until projects are finalized over the next coming weeks and months.

What do you think about this as Walmart Canada plans $340 million expansion?
