The Best Toronto Patios To Hang At This Summer
There are few things in life that go better together with summer than patios, especially in Toronto where al fresco dining options are endless. And whether you’re in the mood to people watch, escape the office for a leisurely lunch, or check out the picturesque lake views, we’ve rounded up the best curbside patios that need to be on your radar — if they aren’t already.
So, take advantage of the four-ish months of the year that aren’t freezing with our roundup of the best patios worth checking out this summer.
Where: 18 Tank House Lane
Even if it didn’t have a sprawling patio, El Catrin would still be an incredible restaurant — we’re just so happy that it is equipped with one of the coolest patios in the city. Located in the heart of Toronto’s historic Distillery District, the patio is decked out with giant outdoor chandeliers, bright yellow furniture, and a cozy fire pit, that’s heated all year-round. Here you’ll be able to chow down on authentic traditional and modern Mexican dishes from a tapas-style menu.
Where: 171 East Liberty Street, Unit 100
This OG restaurant from Vancouver has quickly become a Toronto fan favourite for all the right reasons. Local in Liberty is the perfect spot to chill with friends outside, as the large patio is equipped with large booths and an epic bocce ball court for those wanting to dabble in some friendly competition. There’s also some solid food options, including a delicious brunch menu, daily specials, and an impressive draught list.
Where: 505 College Street
When the sun goes down this College Street patio really starts to heat up. Not only was Bar Raval just recognized as the best bar in Canada, but it’s also home to the coziest patio that’s complete with romantic twinkly lights, a retractable roof for those inevitable rainy Toronto days, top notch street views, and an impressive cocktail. Plus a wine list and delicious Spanish food options to boot!
Where: 245 Queens Quay, 45 Esandar Drive
Whether you’re looking to grab a bite before (or after) a Jays game, or simply just take in the STUNNING city and lake views, Amsterdam Brewhouse is always a hot spot during the summer months. There’s also a location in East York if that’s where you’re located. Regardless, you’ll find no shortage of Muskoka chairs, refreshing locally brewed beers, and artisan food ranging from nibbles to full-on mains.
Where: 124 Ossington Avenue
Tucked away from the hustle of the Ossington strip is Bellwoods Brewery, a local favourite, and a great spot to soak up the sun while getting your people watch on. Because of this watering holes’ impressive beer list, which ranges from sour ales and hazy IPAs, to velvety stouts and everything in between, there is often a line to get in, so we recommend arriving early to avoid the crowds.
Where: 2125 Dundas Street West
Bandit Brewery is perfect for two kinds of people: those who like beer, and those who like a fun patio with an inviting atmosphere. This Dundas Street gem features an epic outdoor space with plenty of seating and cozy lights strung through the trees. Plus, there’s a great selection of rotating house specialties brewed on-site and yummy bites like smoked wings, beer-battered cheese curds, and grilled octopus.
Where: 127 Strachan Avenue
It’s hard to miss Pennies thanks to its yellow facade, but really, you’ll want to stop by for so much more than just the buildings appearance. With a focus on sliders and cheap drinks, Pennies is a go-to spot year-round. During the warmer months, the lively street-side patio is where you’ll see plenty of friendly faces. Indulge in one (or three) wickedly sweet bevies and chow down on burgs tricked out with mac-and-cheese or tangy Southern-style chicken.
