The Huffington Post Canada is reporting that luxury bag and apparel brand Coach has been quietly laying off all of its part-time employees across Canada. Coach currently has 36 stores nationally but has slowly been handing out the required six-week notice without any severance or compensation… Major bummer!
If you read the Huffington Post article (and you should) there is a great quote from a former Coach Canada employee:
“I think that’s a load of crap, because I was the third-highest seller in the store and my client track book was the second largest,” one former part-time employee told the Huffington Post. Coach’s global head of communications told the Huffington Post that the layoffs would make way for more employees to have full-time opportunities, but the large majority of the workers that the Huffington Post interviewed were not given the option to move to full time.
Currently, Coach’s response has been that they are sticking with full-time employees to build a deeper connection between Coach staff and customers, but it probably has more to do with the fact that Coach has been suffering a major decline in sales, and reputation.
We have reached out to Coach for a comment, but there has been no response as of yet.
