Sending off 2016 and ushering in the new year at Nathan Phillips Square is a long-standing Toronto tradition and this year will be no different. Bundle up and head downtown for a night of live performances by Walk Off the Earth, Boogat, Exco Levi and High Priest, and Nefe. Along with music don’t forget to BYOS (bring your own skates) and fit some skating in, then prepare yourselves for the legendary fireworks show when the clock hits 12 pm! The celebration will also be kicking off the City of Toronto’s TO Canada with Love, a year-long exhibit honoring Canada’s 150th birthday.
Countdown to 2017 while you’re cruising along with the whole fam at the Natrel Rink. The Harbourfront Centre will be hosting a NYE Ice Skating Party with DJ P-Plus who will be serving up the hottest musical hits – what they’re calling the “cornucopia of skate-friendly tunes”! So glide your way into the new year surrounded by friends, loved ones, and all the good vibes.
Ring in the New Year with friends at the library! Select locations across Toronto will be hosting a couple of family friendly events: a New Year’s Eve Dance Party and New Year’s Eve at Noon. Programming will include activities like a New Year’s Eve noisemaker craft session, dancing, New Year’s Eve countdowns and more.
Start off 2017 by giving back to the community! Spread the Warmth New Year’s Eve by IDRF (International Development Relief Foundation) invites families to help give back to the community on December 31st and participate in packaging winter kits for refugees in the GTA. Refreshments will be served and all donations are welcomed and accepted.
The Rosewood Church of Nazarene will be hosting a New Year’s Eve Film Night. Start off the evening by watching Miracles in Heaven, participate in a communion service and then celebrate 2017 during the official New Year’s Eve countdown. Don’t forget to bring some light refreshments for their delicious potluck!
One of our favourite holiday traditions has to be the wonderful array of festive displays that light up the city! Make a batch of hot cocoa, bundle up and go to the waterfront to see the Spectacle of Lights. Fully animated lighting exhibits can be found along the waterfront trail at The Westin Hotel, the Fire Hall, and the Toronto Music Garden. Set a reminder on your phone for close to midnight and then have your own private countdown underneath the stunning displays.
