Everything You Need to Know About the Starbucks Rewards Program Changes

On April 12, 2016, Starbucks launched the revamp of their Starbucks Rewards program and we’ve got a rundown of what to expect.

Calling all Starbucks lovers! There’s been a change to your favourite loyalty program. On April 12, 2016, Starbucks launched the revamp of their Starbucks Rewards program. Building on the feedback of loyal and outspoken Rewards members, Starbucks overhauled their rewards program to bring more benefits to its users. Wondering what to expect from this new rewards structure? We’ve got a rundown of the changes to the Starbucks Rewards Program.

Collecting Stars

With the former My Starbucks Rewards Program, members would collect one star for every purchase using their registered Starbucks Card (regardless of the total purchase amount). With the new Starbucks Rewards Program, members can collect two stars for every dollar spent. This comes as a welcome change for many members who would separate items in multiple transactions in order to earn more stars.

Redeeming Stars

Starbucks Rewards Program members who collect 125 stars can redeem them for a free menu item of their choice. Previously, 12 stars earned members a free reward at Starbucks. Note: Any stars earned prior to the program’s transition have been multiplied by 11 to reflect the new points system. All previously earned rewards remain on your account.

Tip: Get the biggest bang for your buck by redeeming your 125 stars for higher priced menu items like Starbucks Bistro Boxes.

Earning Bonus Stars

The new Starbucks Rewards Program makes earning bonus points super easy for members. Sign up for Starbucks email alerts to uncover monthly Double-Star days where you can earn four stars for every dollar spent. Also be sure to turn on your Starbucks app notifications to opt-in to Star Dash offers where you can earn bonus stars for making more frequent trips to Starbucks.

Gold Status

To celebrate the launch of the revamped Starbucks Rewards Program, Starbucks is giving non-members the opportunity to take advantage of automatic gold status. Are you already an existing Starbucks Rewards member? Starbucks will extend your gold status for another year. Simply make one purchase at Starbucks using your registered Starbucks card before May 12, 2016 and you’re in! Click here for details.
