Shop Spotlight: Cloakroom
Located in the heart of Summerhill you’ll find two adorable girls, in one amazing space. Meira and Tamara Elituv are the sisters and owners of Cloakroom, a women’s clothing store that specializes in stocking the best brands from California and Australia. “I spent 10 years living in California and working in fashion,” Meira explains, “my family and friends would come to visit and the first thing we’d do is go shopping! We loved all of the boutiques in LA, San Diego and Santa Barbara, but when I moved to Toronto 2 years ago, I found there was a lack of the brands and price points that I loved to shop in California,” and thus, the idea for Cloakroom was born. Though the shop is fairly new to the neighborhood – it’s only been around for about one and a half years – it has already become a go-to for many women in the area.
During my visit to the store, a number of women stopped by and were either referred to the shop by friends or came in happily greeting the Elituv sisters on a first name basis. “All our customers love that we’re in the neighbourhood – they’re happy to see us and always come in just to say hi or to tell us how many compliments [on their purchases] they get. It makes us feel so great!” Tamara laughs.
The shop has an amazing energy with bright open windows that are complimented with sleek black flooring, white shelves and industrial racks. Within the vast selection of clothing you’ll find eclectic shapes and prints that are integrated with everyday classics. Hard-to-find brands like Cameo the Label, Maurie & Eve, One Teaspoon, Good HYOUman, Blaque Label, Otis & Maclain, and Lovers + Friends are just a few of the brands Cloakroom brings to the table, at the exact prices you’ll find online and in the states, without the shipping and duties.
Not only is Cloakroom ahead of the game in designers and style, but they’re also on top of their selfie game! The Elituv sisters have seen it all: shoppers sending dark photos of what they’re wearing from the change room or blurry photos of their behinds and they are setting to merge the online and in-store shoppers by helping them snap #ootd photos with their new, in-store photobooth! In the back corner of the store – in an area with lots of space and great lighting – shoppers can get their photos snapped on what looks like a giant iPad. Once they’ve captured the perfect image, the shopper is able to post it on Facebook, send it to a friend for a second opinion or their mother for approval.
Ideas like that are what keeps the evolving and the Elituv sisters are always looking for customer feedback on what to bring into the store or what they can improve – they place a great emphasis on customer service, because their customers are more than clients, they are their friends and a part of the Cloakroom family!
