We Tried Out Cineplex’s New 4DX and Loved it
About 2 months ago, Cineplex, Canada’s largest movie theatre chain opened 4DX an immersive movie experience that includes special effects with everything from moving chairs to water, rain, fog, wind, snow and scents. The special effects are synchronized with the movie to make watching a film truly an interactive experience.
There couldn’t be a better way to watch a movie than in 4DX. We recently saw Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them at the Cineplex located right at Yonge and Dundas. Here is how it works. You walk in, buy your ticket, buy your snacks, and walk in just like a regular theatre. When you enter, you already have a seat printed on your ticket and you find your way to the most comfortable theatre chair I’ve sat in.
Before the move began I made sure to look around and wonder where the special effects come from. The ticklers were obvious, but things like smell and feel were harder to detect. Once the movie started it was clear that this would be a fun couple hours. We literally felt like we could touch the actors and like we were “in” the film. The scents, vibrations, and touch really brought the movie to life in a brand new way.
The only bad thing about the movie was that I left wishing I had seen all the Harry Potter ones there prior to Fantastic Beasts – would have been enchanting. Hopefully, Cineplex brings them back one day in 4DX so we can all experience them in real life.
