A couple of months ago, we reported that Uniqlo was considering making it’s foray into the Canadian market. We now have word that the Japanese retailer is in fact setting up shop in Canada. According to Retail-Insider, Uniqlo is negotiating a lease for part of the sub-basement space in Vancouver’s Downtown Hudson’s Bay Building – directly below where TopShop is currently located.
Things to note, the Uniqlo brand although possibly located in The Bay, will not have a partnership agreement similar to that between the Bay and TopShop.
Regardless, Uniqlo is one of the fastest growing retailers in the world, and might force H&M to step up their game here north of the border. Regardless the outcome I’ll be excited to get myself into some Uniqlo when it finally opens in Canada.
