The Retail Council of Canada has just come out with their 2016 Shopping Centre Study and it lists Yorkdale Shopping Centre as the best performing mall among the top malls in Canada by sales per square foot. In contrast to last year, Yorkdale is doing amazing. With an increase of $40 per square foot, the small yet impactful increase shows Yorkdale’s dominance. Last year the shopping centre generated $1.2 Billion in 2015 at a record $1,610 per square- foot making Yorkdale one of the highest sales-volume areas for retailers in Canada. Well, this year Yorkdale will likely generate well north of a Billion dollars in 2016 as the mall has set another record at $1,650.65 per square- footage. This large increase may be attributed to Yorkdale’s new 2016 $331 Million expansion boasting an additional 300,000 square feet of retail space, and including many luxury brands which accounts for a large increase in sales.
