Finally, a good Canadian retail story. Although Danier had their backs up against the ropes and temporarily had to close, the Brand is back and stronger than ever.  Our friends at Retail-Insider are reporting that Danier is expected to expand store operations and plans on opening several new stores across Canada.

If you can remember, last year Danier sought creditor protection and all stores were closed. In July, Danier’s intellectual property was purchased by new owners who re-established the company.  According to Retail-Insider, the new owners will focus Danier’s operation on a wide selection of leather goods for men and women, and will include ready-to-wear, outerwear, bags and accessories. The new product range is expected to be more modern and will include high-end luxury categories as well. Essentially, Danier wants to be considered ‘accessible luxury’. It will be interesting to see how the brand competes with the likes of Michael Kors and Coach.

Danier opened its first store in the fall of 2016 at the Oshawa Centre and has opened locations at Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket, Vaughan Mills north of Toronto and at the Outlet Collection Winnipeg, as well as the most recent openings at Outlet Collection Niagara near Niagara Falls, and at the Toronto Dominion Centre in downtown Toronto.

With plans for continued growth, we are just happy to see a favourite Canadian brand come back and kick a little butt.
