Last call— Don’t miss the KOTN end-of-season sale for reductions on quality essentials, ethically made from authentic Egyptian cotton. Find classic styles for men and women.
Kotn was born from a desire for good quality, simple essentials that didn’t cost a fortune. In 2014, Ben approached Mackenzie and Rami with the seemingly small problem. Over the next few months, they’d learn about how big of a challenge that desire really was.
We focus on one naturally remarkable fibre: our namesake, authentic Egyptian cotton. Grown in only one place in the world — the Nile Delta — Egypt’s “white gold” is finer, softer, and more breathable than any other cotton. Unfortunately, since 2001, there has been a 95% decline in demand from big corporations that opted to go with cheaper options. As a result, millions of farmers, weavers, and craftspeople are struggling to make ends meet.
Our cotton is then sent to our cut-and-sew factory outside Alexandria. The responsibly-run operation employs locals, securing their craft and their livelihood. By scrapping the middleman, we’ve ensured a fair wage for them, and an honest price for you.
To stop the cycle of child labour, we’ve also partnered with pro-literacy organizations on the ground in the Nile Delta. In 2017 we completed the funding and construction of our first school, and over Black Friday we raised enough money to fund a second one. Improving the literacy rate for boys and girls in Egypt will help to improve quality of life for the next generation.
In 2017, we became a Certified B Corp, a new type of company that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.
