There’s just something about enjoying a cup of coffee or tea somewhere that isn’t at home. It somehow makes it taste that much better. Plus, visiting a cafe is a great way to get some work done in different scenery, which can feel extra inspiring. That being said, a specific vibe makes a cafe worthy of saying “for here” when ordering rather than “to-go”. Not only does the quality of the drinks differentiate a cafe from a cheap-coffee chain, but also how welcoming (or cozy) the atmosphere is! Toronto has a ton of great cafes throughout the city that are worth visiting.

We’ve gathered some of the cutest and coziest cafes in Toronto that you should visit for your next cup of coffee or tea.

AM Coffee Studio

Picture this: You head into AM Coffee Studio to sit with your morning cup of coffee, then you head into their studio for a yoga class, and on your way out you buy yourself some flowers to-go. It sounds like a dream, but it’s a reality at this coffee shop.

Transport yourself to the English countryside at Kitten and the Bear, where you can enjoy hand-made jam, scones, fine tea, and more!

FIKA Cafe

On this cafe’s website, it explains the word Fika is a Swedish verb meaning “to go out for coffee” or can also be used as a noun to say “coffee break”, and that it’s standard in Sweden to invite friends to fika every few hours within the work day! Have your next fika (are we using that right?) at this Toronto cafe surrounded by books they’ve pinned to the walls, adding to the cozy factor!

Dineen Coffee Co.

The first one opened at the corner of Yonge and Temperance Street, in the historic Dineen Building, and is listed as a Toronto Heritage Property! Its historic atmosphere continues to live on, and it offers a unique ambience while you enjoy a cup of coffee.

Admit it, sometimes you visit a cafe purely for the aesthetic. We aren’t here to judge! If you appreciate a cafe that provides a little bit of extra design goodness, you should visit Oretta Café. It’s accessed from the pedestrian walkway adjacent to the main Orterra restaurant!

Balzac’s

Although this cafe is a chain, it doesn’t feel like one when you visit. There are Balzac’s locations open throughout Toronto and they all have a chill and welcoming atmosphere, and its coffee is known to be top-tier.

As a freelance writer and online entrepreneur, I’m always looking for spaces to work from around the city. Luckily, Toronto is home to some of the coziest cafés with uplifting atmospheres, friendly staff, and amazing cups of coffee.

Every neighbourhood in Toronto has something to offer when it comes to great cafes. If you’re on the lookout for the best cafes to work from in Toronto, here are 7 of my favourites.

Dark Horse Espresso Bar (Canary District)

There are 6 Dark Horse locations around the city, but I always make my way to the one in the Canary District. The staff is amazing and I love how bright the space is, outfitted with massive floor to ceiling windows. The interior is industrial yet cozy and there are tons of seats to post up at and do your work. Spend the day here sipping on your caffeinated drink of choice, and fill up on one of their hearty sandwiches to keep you fueled.

Dineen Outpost

Newly opened Dineen Outpost is now one of the prettiest places to work from in Toronto. With rich pink benches, round marble tables and lots of windows to keep the place bright, you’ll love getting your work done in this space. Their coffee is delicious and they offer a range of pastries, sandwiches and salads on the bar. Take a seat in the open front area or the cozy elevated space in the back.

The Walton

A charming spot on College West, The Walton is a quaint and quiet café that’s perfect to get some work done, while sipping on their signature espresso. And when you need a break from work, you can peruse their menu filled with delicious snacks like the ricotta and beet toast or caramelized onion quiche.

Neo Coffee Bar

Neo has tons of seating, which is ideal for anyone who needs to work the day away. It’s a contemporary Japanese-inspired café known for its espresso, drip and pour-over drinks. Plus, they offer amazing cakes and fresh pastries, which they make right in front of your eyes. A selection of fine teas and cold-pressed juice are also available, so you can sip what you like while you work.

Forget Me Not Café

Part café, part gift emporium, Forget Me Not just might be the cutest coffee shop in Toronto. With seating in the front and back, there’s tons of room to set up shop, and with lattes in flavours like Nutella, toasty almond and coconut (which you can get hot or iced), how can you go wrong?

Creeds Coffee Bar

A huge light-filled space with lots of seating and come-to-life wall art, Creeds coffee bar is comfy and welcoming. Serving espresso drinks, brewed coffee, cold brew, tea and juices, and an array of gourmet sandwiches, salads and baked goods, you can have it all while you work the day away.

Saving Gigi

A cozy spot on Bloor Street West, Saving Gigi is an awesome café to work from. With mostly shared tables, you can check off your to-do list with others working away around you. And I would suggest going hungry because their menu is packed with delicious eats. Think homemade granola and yogurt, a breakfast burrito, and sourdough waffles with brown butter apple compote.
