In case you haven’t noticed, it’s getting chilly out there. The leaves are changing, jackets are quickly becoming more of a necessity than an accessory, and those open-toe shoes? They’ve officially made their way to the back of the closet. In other words, it’s boot season! Around this is the time of year when we dig out all the boots we own—heeled, flat, ankle, knee-high—and, of course, shop for a new pair (or two) to keep things feeling ~ fresh ~. Not only are boots a practical choice as the temps drop, but they’re also a total outfit game-changer. A great pair of boots can take an outfit from 0 to 10 in an instant. And let’s face it, no fall wardrobe is complete without a new pair of “fall-approved” boots.

The best season in terms of fashion is here, and it’s time to take our seasonal closet inventory to ensure we have all the pieces we need to serve the absolute best looks this fall. From year to year, some fashion staples stay consistent, but there are always some new pieces in the mix to keep things fresh. From ballet flats to leather jackets, there are some staples we can’t imagine not having in our closets to choose from this fall!
A fall staple you should definitely add to your wardrobe if you haven’t already is a great leather jacket! It’s a piece that will always remain relevant in terms of style, so you can wear it year after year. The best ones tend to be perfectly worn-in vintage options, however, we’re also loving this one from Mango in case you’re not up for the hunt!
Statement boots of all kinds are huge this fall. Whether it be chunky biker boots or pointed-toe knee-highs – you need a pair of statement boots to go with your looks this season!
You’ve probably heard by now, red is absolutely the colour of the season. You can easily incorporate the staple colour into your wardrobe via accessories, but a bright cherry-red knit sweater is also a must-add to fully embrace the trend. This Reformation one is gorg.
Loafers are a footwear staple that will never go out of style, and this fall they are having an especially big moment! Specifically chunky loafers or ones with a hint of colour (think dark burgundy). Paired with a pair of white or lace socks creates a look of academia perfection.
If you want to wear a casual jeans outfit, but simply elevate it a bit – black jeans are the way to go! They add an extra element of sleekness in contrast to a pair of blue jeans and are so easy to style on a day-to-day basis. Invest in a great pair of straight-leg black jeans for this fall and they’ll soon become your favourite pants to wear!
Sorry to break it to you, but business casual to the club is back. Blazers that can take you from work to drinks with friends are an essential wardrobe staple this fall! Go for one that feels universal, in the way where it can be styled up or down in a multitude of ways.
Slip tops and dresses, especially the ones that look like they can also be worn to bed, are becoming such a staple piece to style! For fall, they can easily be worn with a cardigan or blazer, and if it’s a slip-dress, a pair of tights and chunky boots will automatically make it feel fall-appropriate.
We can’t get enough of ballet flats right now! If you’ve yet to add a pair to your collection, what are you waiting for? They’re easy to style, comfortable, and so cute! You can find ballet flats from basically any brand that makes shoes at the moment, affordable to high-end.
Waistcoats have been a trending fashion piece pretty much all year, and it’s going to remain to be a staple for this fall, too! Opposed to summer styling, worn on its own, now the move is to either wear with a matching suit or layered on top of a button-up or long-sleeved shirt.

Fall is around the corner, and as summer nears an end, we can’t help but get excited about all things autumn! Especially decor-wise. If you’ve been in to HomeSense lately, you’ve probably noticed that the fall decor has started rolling out. So, we decided to head over to our local HomeSense and check out the options, and do some shopping to get our homes ready for fall!

Seasonal floral arrangements are always a nice touch to add to your space to add an essence of the current season. They can easily be switched out and reused over and over as the seasons change, too! HomeSense had so many fall-themed faux floral arrangements, already pre-styled in a vase for extra ease.

Another thing you can easily switch up season to season is your door wreath! Whether you live in an apartment or house, having a wreath up shouldn’t be overlooked! It’s the first thing you see before when you’re about to enter your home, after all. We loved the selection of fall wreaths that HomeSense had to offer, this orange foliage one being our first pick. It’s just so warm and welcoming!

A running theme while looking through the decor section at HomeSense was an overwhelming amount of pumpkins. From glass, to plush and everything in between – the store had it. We were loving the classy look of the glass ones. They would look so cute styled on a coffee table!

What’s more rutstic and fall-themed than wheat bundles? They could be placed in a doorway, corner, or wherever your heart desires. HomeSense had a few different colour variations of wheat bundles including orange, green, and brown.

Fall-scented candles are the ultimate fall-decor item if you ask us. Not only do they look cute placed on a table or tray, they add a fall scent to your home, which is absolutely essential if you want your home to feel like autumn! It’s kind of the best part of fall, no?

HomeSense had no shortage of options when it came to throw pillows of all colours and designs, including some fall-themed options like this maple-leaf one. We love how subtle it is, due to having a neutral colour-way, but still has that fall essence with the leaves.

Functional decor is elite, and HomeSense got the memo. There was a variety of options of various fall-esque kitchen towels that you can have draped on your oven door handle to add a touch of autumn to your kitchen. It’s another easy decor item that’s easy to switch out as the seasons change!
Head over to your local HomeSense to get an early taste of fall this year!

Although fall may not officially begin until September 22nd, the second September hits the itch for fall fashion and simply can’t be ignored! Now that fashion week is back in full swing, we can’t help but notice the excitement in the air to embrace new fall fashion trends. We’ve been seeing everything from ‘balletcore’ to biker chic, and we can’t wait to embrace the trends fall 2022 has to offer.
Balletcore as a whole is a trend that we’ve been seeing throughout summer and is being carried full force into fall. More specifically ballet-style shoes have been taking over the fashion scene. Miu Miu’s ‘Satin Ballerinas’, for example, have been going viral and they are super reminiscent of traditional pointe shoes, (hopefully more comfortable than pointe shoes though!).
For those of you who didn’t love the micro mini skirt trend, you’ll be happy to know that midi and maxi skirts and dresses alike are making a major comeback for fall! We’ve been seeing hemlines get longer from just past the knees, all the way to the ground. Styled with a pair of chunky loafers or statement boots is such a vibe.
It’s no secret that waistcoats are hugely popular right now! This piece will easily be carried over into fall with its layering and styling capabilities. We’ve seen it worn with matching trousers for a suited look, or styled as a single piece – both equally chic.
The baggier the better, when it comes to your jeans this autumn! Not only are skinny jeans being left behind, but baggy, loose-fitting jeans are being favoured over all else. Bonus points for mid and low-rise styles!
Rev your engines because the biker trend is back! All you really need to accomplish this trend is a staple leather jacket, specifically, a moto jacket if you have one handy. You can take it to the next level by pairing it with leather pants and or some black leather boots if you wish. Basically, just incorporate a lot of leather.
Home-made knit pieces, especially ones with loose or “un-done” finishes are a trending layering piece for fall! We’ve seen hand-made knit sweaters, cardigans, and shruggies styled over pretty much anything from simple tanks to fancier dresses. Opting to shop this trend from smaller creators is the move!
Whether you’re walking the hallways or not, take notes from prep school uniforms for this trend! Collared shirts, pleated skirts, knee-high socks, loafers, and even varsity jackets are all trending fashion pieces that are easily categorized into the “prep school” trend. Where the pieces all together for an extra preppy look or mix and match.
It’s never too soon to pull out your tall boots if you ask us. Putting on a pair of statement boots instantly elevates, and makes any look more autumnal. Knee-high boots, over-the-knee boots, and western boots are all appropriate options!
If you’ve been paying attention to current fashion week streetwear styles, you’ve likely noticed the sheer clothing garment craze. Once it was more likely to see this trend on models on the runway, but now it’s become a huge trend to wear a sheer top or dress out and about.
As practical as it is stylish, long coats are definitely a fashion trend for the fall! Whether it be a classic trench coat or a colourful faux-fur peacoat, long coats and jackets are being worn as the focal point of an outfit, rather than just as a garment to keep you warm. With the colder weather coming, why not treat our jackets as a fashion statement?
Not only in jewellery, but in all forms – silver is taking over. After a major part of the past couple of years being spent in casual attire, it’s no surprise that people want a little more glam in their day-to-day style! Not only can silver be styled in a glam way but it is also known to be a tad more grunge than gold, making the styling possibilities for this trend endless!

Fall is one of my favourite seasons for many reasons. I won’t bore you with all of them because we’d be here all day, but between sweater weather, falling leaves, and pumpkin spiced lattes, is all the shopping that comes with the crisp, turning weather. While I always have wardrobe essentials hanging in my closet, I’m always on the hunt for new pieces that can help revamp and spice up my fall wardrobe. That’s why when I was challenged to update my fall wardrobe for $250 at Square One, I was super excited to get started.

Located in Mississauga, Square One isn’t the same mall that folks may recall from days past. Square One is Ontario’s largest shopping centre as its 2.2 million square feet. The mall is known as a tourist destination and it’s even open on statutory holidays. In addition to having a fabulous assortment of stores for the whole family, Square One recently opened its Food District that houses a variety of popular restaurants and even hosts cooking classes.
When I set out to complete this fall wardrobe shopping challenge at Square One, I wasn’t quite sure where to start. Should I hit my tried and true mall faves like Zara and H&M, or do I experiment and check out stores that I didn’t shop as often? With the huge store selection that Square One has, I decided to give the more lesser-loved (to me) stores a go.

The first store I popped into was Ann Taylor and if you’re thinking that it’s just a store for those who work in an office, then think again. While Ann Taylor does have a brilliant selection of workplace staples, what you need to know is that’s not where its offerings stop. The store also houses beautiful sweaters, shoes, jewellery, luxe coats, dresses, and more. The first thing I noticed upon walking into the store was a cheetah-print cardigan on one of the mannequins.
After feeling how cozy and soft the fabric was, I knew I had to have it. Not only would this cardi be great over a turtleneck for those super cold winter days, but on more mild days it would look fab over a simple tee. This was definitely the item I was most excited to add into my fall wardrobe.

The next store I decided to peruse was Aritzia. Even though I don’t shop at Aritzia as often as I used to, it’s a store that I’ll always pop into. While I didn’t find any clothes here, I did find a fabulous wide brim wool hat that I absolutely fell hard for. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a hat person, but I do have a straw hat that I love to wear in the summer, and I’ve always wanted a great fall hat. In my crazy new hat excitement, I forgot to catch a pic of the hat in-store but I wore it (and my new Ann Taylor cardigan) to a media event the next day and got lots of compliments!

Next on my list was a pair of jeans and after trying on denim in a few stores to no avail, I decided to head into one of my mall staple stores, Zara, to see if there was anything for me. I tried on a few pairs of different styles, and one that really worked well for me was the retailer’s Mom Jean cut. In addition to the high waist, a straight cut is most flattering on me, and I love that the jeans weren’t too long on my petite frame. Best of all, these jeans were just $45.

It wasn’t just a pair of jeans that I copped at Zara. I also managed to find a beautiful black bucket bag, too. One thing you should know about me, if it’s not obvious already, is that I always gravitate toward black clothes and accessories. I’m not saying that I only wear all black, but I really have to make a conscious effort to wear a pop of colour. Going with this pattern, my go colour for accessories is black and that’s why I opted for this chic purse instead of a bright red one that I saw in-store as well.

One thing about Square One that you need to know is that there’s a huge Simons store. The only other Simons location in Ontario is in Ottawa, so if you’re not down for a road trip, this is the mall to come to.

Last on my fall shopping list was those trendy pearl barrettes that I’ve seen all over Instagram lately. Knowing that Simons houses a vast selection of trend forward items from designer apparel and handbags, to dresses and fabulous jackets, I knew that it would have exactly what I was on the hunt for. And I was right.

In addition having a really strong store selection, Square One is a very beautiful mall to stroll around. In case you were keeping up with my total, I came in right at my budget which was $250, which for me is a very successful experience shopping for my fall wardrobe.

With so many items available on Amazon from skincare and home goods, to shoes and everything in between, finding what’s actually worth the money can be tricky. That’s why we’ve come to rely on the global e-retailer’s best seller lists. If you’re in need of some new duds for fall and aren’t down to trudge through the mall, Amazon is the place for you. In case you’re a bit wary of spending your cash on items you haven’t seen in person yet, a quick read of product reviews will tell you everything you need to know. From fall jackets and vests, to accessories and footwear, the fall fashion items are ripe for the picking at Amazon.
Throughout the slow and often confusing transition from summer to fall, dressing appropriately for the weather can be hard. And when it comes to ditching sweater weather for good, finding a fall jacket that’s not too hot, or too heavy is a struggle. When it’s freezing cold in the morning, but warm and sunny by the afternoon, figuring out what to wear becomes less fun and more strategic but that doesn’t mean your style has to suffer.
With so many options online and in stores, choosing a piece that checks all your boxes can be overwhelming, as every single detail needs to work for you. But worry not because we’re making the process a whole lot easier.
