So you’ve had some practice surviving Black Friday, now it’s time to put your skills to the real test and see how you fare in the wonderful and wild world of Boxing day shopping. Let us all take a moment to learn and reflect upon the recent case of the kid, the crazy and the food steamer. If you have a raised brow and have no idea what we’re talking about, check out this 25 second tutorial on: How to Shop like an Unrefined Human Being. Harrowing isn’t it?
Here are some tips to help you shop smart with class and still score the deals:
1. Scope out the scene in advance and know what you want before the holiday shopping craze begins. Wherever you’re planning to get to for Boxing Day, go a few days prior to check out that you need. Operative word being “need” – far too many people make purchases just because there’s a sales label attached to it. Then, on the day of the sale you’ll not only know where to look for your item, but you’ll also be out of the store before most people can even find an associate to ask. Time management for the win!
2. Don’t let a sale transform you into a hoarder. It’s not cute. If one slow cooker is what you’re missing in your kitchen, there should be no need to leave the store with 10 of them, no matter how great the sale is. You’ll end up spending more than necessary and end up cluttering your home.
3. Skip the driving and arrange for transportation. Whether it be hitching a ride from a the good neighbor next door who’s heading to the mall too, or taking the bus – avoid the driving at all cost. Here’s why: 1. Knowing that you have to lug all your shopping bags/boxes onto a bus will probably help you buy less 2. The parking lot will most likely run rampant with careless drivers. And you’ll end up sharking the lot for a solid hour before you even find a parking spot.
4. Skip the heels and fancy attire; the truth of the matter is, no one will be looking at you. Cold, we know, but when steamers are on sale for $10 a pop, no one will care that you’re wearing Chanel. Dress down and dress comfy – that is the name of the game.
