If you think organic beauty is limited to the little aisle at the back of the health food store, think again. Toronto and the GTA are home to a wide selection of great organic beauty boutiques that stock all-natural beauty products. Here are some of our favourites:
When Valerie Grandury was diagnosed with breast cancer, her and her team said goodbye to chemical-heavy products. That’s how Detox Market was born, out of an effort to detoxify not only her own life, but everyones. The Yorkville and King St. West locations are home to a carefully crafted selection of organically-focused products – from luscious bath soaps from brands like Sudsatorium and Odacite to detox teas. 96 Scollard St. and 420 King St. West, Toronto, Ontario.

After suffering from brutal acne all her life and never quite finding the right product to combat it, Province Apothecary founder Julie Clark took matters into her own hands by creating her own line of locally-produced and seasonally-appropriate skincare products. Now, her line is sold across Canada as well as in her Kensington Market brick & mortar. Products include Full Brow Serum for all you over-pluckers out there, a plant-based hangover remedy to cleanse and tone the liver, and eczema balm. 16 Kensington Ave. Toronto, Ontario.

Pure + Simple is a full-service spa that boasts an in-house line of all-natural products. When I popped into their Yorkville location, I received a tutorial on all the ingredients and care that go into their products – like organic rosehip oil to heal scars and Chaulmoogra Seed Oil that acts as an anti-bacterial. They also carry a great selection of heavy-hitting holistic brands, including Ilia, Jane Iredale, and Graydon. Multiple locations across the GTA.

Queen West’s The Cure Apothecary has an astounding selection of all-natural organic skin and hair care products for lads and ladies. Expect aromatherapy scents and skincare products from a vast selection of brands, including a full range of beard oils and shaving ointments for men. Some of their top gems – Fit Glow foundations (which nourish skin while providing great coverage) and the best hair mask you’ll ever get your hands on from Barber and Fritz. 719 Queen West, Toronto, Ontario.

Vancouver residents Jeanne-Pierre LeBlanc and Kate Ross LeBlanc created their line of wellness products years ago, with the hope of bringing synthetic-free products to the masses. They’ve done just that, with dozens of locations across the country that offer up high-quality ingredients with a focus on healing. You can even ‘shop by ailment’ on their e-commerce platform. Saje currently has four locations across the GTA, including Queen West, Yonge & Eg, and the Eaton Centre. Multiple locations across the GTA.

Gee Beauty is a modern beauty boutique, started by Miriam Gee and her three daughters, nestled right in the heart of Rosedale. Since opening, they’ve launched another lifestyle concept store next door as well as their own in-house line of blushers and lip glosses. The store has a higher price range, so the prices aren’t for the faint of heart, but the quality of the small-batch, all-organic products makes it well worth the splurge. They’re the only Canadian retailer that offers the Le Labo fragrance bar – where you can custom make your own fragrances and candles from their selections of luxury scents. Gee Beauty also offers a bevy of beauty services including lash extensions, eyebrow threading, and make-up applications. 2 Roxborough St. West, Toronto, Ontario.

Initially started in an old ice-cream hut in Muskoka by holistic nutritionist Tara Miller, HealthHut now boasts an adorable little boutique just South of Bloor St. Health Hut stocks a selection of US brands (to save you the sky-high shipping costs) and supports burgeoning Canadian brands like Leaves of Trees, Graydon, and Province Apothecary. 171 Harbord St. Toronto, Ontario.
