When it comes to cool spaces The Bentway is Toronto’s newest golden child. Weaving together seven local neighbourhoods and spanning across 1.75km underneath the city’s Gardiner Expressway, this spot is open to the public. Not only does The Bentway offer year-round activities and events, it will also serve as an excellent location to kick back with your laptop, earbuds and a cup of joe and finish off that 12-page paper you’ve been putting off. Page One Café is located in the heart of Ryerson’s student territory, the Yonge and Dundas neighbourhood. Unlike most coffee shops this hybrid spot was created to cater specifically to local students. Walls lined with typewriters and a collection of books, this place provides a cool yet offbeat atmosphere for all students to use. Bring your laptop as this café supplies guests with Beanfield’s fast and reliable WiFi, making Page One a hit amongst the area’s academics. Whether you’re there to cram for a final over a latte or interested in getting creative for an assignment over a cocktail this is the place for you. Make sure you don’t leave without eating, Page One Café has an excellent assortment of sandwiches, appetizers and baked goods, YUM!

Located within Toronto’s east-end Danforth community, Carrot Common is the one stop shop for all things holistic, organic, ethically sourced and GMO-free. This vegetarian’s paradise is home to a number of small businesses and storefronts all sharing the same community values and beliefs. Perched atop the Carrot Common mall is their unique public space known as The Carrot Green Roof, among the first of its kind this urban garden and community resource centre offers seating surrounded by nature, great for those who enjoy studying in this setting. Along with the free WiFi, this rooftop garden is also home to birds, bumblebees, herbs, flower and vegetable gardens, shrubs, and much more. Home of Canada’s leading public contemporary art gallery, The Power Plant and conveniently located on the city’s beautiful waterfront, the Harbourfront Centre provides the public with an innovative space for all to enjoy. With several seating areas across the property, including the outdoor amphitheatre and adjacent picnic tables, students can enjoy free WiFi while taking in the city views, on-site art installations or breaking at one of their many free festivals, exhibits or performances.
