A new barbershop has popped up on the Ossington strip and it’s steeped in a combined six generations of barbering and is geared towards the modern man. Barber & Co is a full-service barbershop and grooming line and definitely isn’t your dad’s barbershop. The new shop is designed to meet the grooming needs of the contemporary gentleman and honours the longstanding ritual of a cut, trim or shave, fused with the cool comforts of a social club.
Originating from the west-coast Barber & Co takes the culture of traditional barbering to the next level. Every aspect has been thought of, paying homage to the time-honoured craft of turning the chairs away from the mirrors to encourage social interaction and the new Toronto shop will mix an authentic barber experience with the modern touches that appeases modern men.
“Barbershops have a longstanding tradition of serving as social clubs, and our mission is to re-create the authentic barbershop experience that was established by our own fathers fathers,”says Martin Rivard, Co-Founder and Master Barber of Barber and Co. “We’re excited to bring Barber & Co to Toronto, and there’s no doubt that Ossington is the right place for barbering culture to thrive. We aim to cultivate a social space where men of all tastes can get skillfully groomed and hang out with the fellas.”
In addition to the classic feel, the barbershop is mixed with modernity by the Barber & Co Ossington Gift Shop. The Gift Shop is a dual-purpose shop that encourages guys to socialise pre or post-shave and allow guests to shop a curated selection of iconic collectables and memorabilia. Guests can find everything from Rolex watches to vintage comic books.
After hours, the Gift Shop continues as a full-service cocktail bar with patrons entering through the darkened barbershop which gives a feeling of an old-school speakeasy.
