The fall season is arguably the best time of year to treat yourself to a day trip. With the beautiful colours that surround us, along with the crisp fall air, it’s the perfect time to get a short trip in before it reaches that time of year when it’s too cold to even want to go outside. We know travelling can be expensive and we don’t all have the luxury to pick up and leave our day-to-day lives. Luckily, there are so many great places surrounding Toronto that are totally day-trip worthy, so you don’t have to stray too far away to treat yourself to a day of fun activities, stunning scenery, and much-needed relaxation. We’ve rounded up a handful of easy and fun day trips you can go on that are under four hours away from Toronto!

Muskoka Lakes Farm & Winery

Cranberry growing has been a Johnston family tradition since 1950, located within Muskoka Lakes Farm & Winery, the cranberry farm is just about two hours away from Toronto. The farm has things to do all year round! This fall you can take a wagon tour, see the harvest, visit the Cranberry Café, or take the insta-worthy Cranberry Plunge, where you actually go into a cranberry marsh! If you want to have a fun day full of adventures, cranberries, and even some wine, check out Johnston’s Cranberry Farm!

Beamsville Bench

Check out all of the wineries at the Beamsville Bench area! It makes up the westernmost part of the Niagara Peninsula wine-growing area and is home to some of the best vineyards in Ontario. Now all you have to choose is which wines you want to sip on that day.

Hamilton Waterfalls

Hamilton is only about an hour away from Toronto, and is the Waterfall Capital of the world! Some popular waterfalls in Hamilton are: Albion Falls, Webster Falls, Tiffany Falls, and so many more, as there are over 100 different waterfalls in the city! If you’re bored with your regular trail, a day trip to Hamilton is the perfect way to spice up your routine hike and see some amazing waterfalls.

Kelso

There is a little something for everyone over at Kelso. You can take a lovely chairlift ride right down the escarpment, pack a lunch for a picnic, adventure around on a mountain bike, and so much more.

Niagara Falls 

There are endless activities to do during a day trip to Niagara Falls which located under two hours away from Toronto. Clifton Hill is a Niagara Falls attraction that is sure to keep your day packed with all sorts of fun. Don’t miss out on great activities, including the Skywheel, where you can experience spectacular views, and the Wax Museum, where you can see your favourite celebrities in wax form. Also make sure you visit Ripley’s, or simply just walk around and enjoy the beauty of Niagara Falls.

Dundas Peak

Dundas Peak is a hiking trail located in Dundas, Ontario which is about an hour away from Toronto. Dundas Peak is known for its breathtaking, beautiful view at the top of the rocks, so if you love nature, hiking, and great views (who doesn’t?!) Dundas Peak is definitely worth checking out!

Algonquin Park

Algonquin Park may seem far away, but it’s actually only around three hours from Toronto! Algonquin Park is the perfect day getaway if you really want to forget about the city for a little while and enjoy the fine beauty that nature has to offer. Of course, we love a good hike, but forests and trails near the city just won’t have the same kind of nature or wildlife Algonquin as to offer. Let’s face it: you’re not going to get the chance to see a moose on your local Toronto trail!

Mount Nemo

Don’t want to travel for up to 4 hours? No worries. Mount Nemo is a total fan favourite with hikers in the area. This peaceful spot is perfect to take in the breathtaking view, which you can see the CN Tower if it’s a clear day!

Cambridge/ Galt

The old town of Cambridge is so underrated! There are a ton of beautifully designed buildings, shops, and, of course, the Cambridge Grand River to walk around and explore.
