According to CBC News, a major casino will be opening in Pickering and this could be BIG in more way than one. The future entertainment complex, Durham Live, is expected to be a hefty budget of $1.3 billion dollars. This could create more than 10,000 jobs, with at least 2,000 working in the casino alone – The project hopes to make Durham a top tourist hub in the GTA.
Several exciting facilities we can expect:
- A world-class casino
- A year-round indoor waterpark
- A giant amphitheatre (capacity 16,000 people)
- Ultra-modern cinemas
- A five-star restaurant strip
- Three luxury hotels
- A massive shopping mall
- A fitness centre and spa
- A beautiful botanical garden
- A film studio and other venues.
“The casino would be built near Highway 401 and is now seeking city permits, said the organization behind the plan. It’s unclear when it will open. Ontario Gaming GTA LP is a partnership between the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, which operates some 25 gaming and hospitality services across Canada and in the U.S., and Toronto-based Brookfield Business Partners.”
Apparently, the City of Toronto has blocked all casino proposals in the downtown core. There are potential plans to expand Woodbine’s operations but we are still waiting to find out more news on that.
