With such a diverse history and population, the greater Toronto area is known for its vast culinary selection. As one of the top foodie destinations in Canada, each pocket offers its own unique flavours and takes on cuisine.

But gone are the days where you have to drive downtown Toronto for a unique dining experience. As the area changes and grows, its offerings expand with it, giving locals a chance to explore even further. And this year, a one-of-a-kind eatery is opening in Mississauga.

The Food District will open at Square One Shopping Centre this spring.

Spanning over 40,000-square-feet in the west end of the mall, The Food District will be an incredible destination for all things food and drink-related, and will be a one-of-a-kind experience for foodies and locals.

Inspired by the food halls found in Europe, The Food District is bringing the popular concept to Mississauga, along with some of the area’s most talented chefs.

With over 20 vendors, there will truly be something for everyone at The Food District.

Visitors can expect to see established eateries like The Pie Commission, Blackjack BBQ, Dal Moro’s Pasta, and Sweet Jesus, as well as soon-to-be favourites like authentic Danish pastry house BRØD, gourmet chip experts Craft Chippery, and soup connoisseur Ma’s Best Quality Soup.

And while foodies will have the opportunity to grab-and-go, The Food District will also provide those in the area a place to linger over good food, craft cocktails, wine, and more with those they love.

Each individual restaurant will have its own seating, and La Carnita and MidiCi will even spill outside to offer patio seating during warmer months. For those friend and family groups with a variety of different taste buds, communal tables will be there for meals to be shared.

Restaurants aren’t The Food District’s only offerings either — it will be a one-stop-shop.

In addition to restaurants, and cafes and bakeries like Hale Coffee and The Box Donut, The Food District will offer a variety of shops as well. Arvinda’s will offer pre-packaged Indian Spice Blends, Tao Tea Leaf will bring its mighty selection of teas, Blossom Moments will bring fresh bouquets, and Sugar King Factory will satisfy your sweet tooth with candy, chocolates, and more.

And if you’re looking for inspiration for your next make-at-home meal, The Food District will also house Pier 87 Fish Market & Grill for the freshest filets and oysters, and Seed to Sausage for the finest cured meats.
