Beachy waves are one of our all-time favourite hairstyles for summer. They look so effortlessly cool! But as with everything that looks effortless, they do require a bit of effort. We don’t always have time to indulge in a full beach day in order to create authentic beachy waves, after all (sigh). With the right products, tools, and techniques, we can look like we just got back from a beach vacation any day of the week!
Here’s how to get perfect beachy waves – without the beach!
Note: Everyone has different hair, and there are multiple ways to achieve various beachy wave hairstyles. This is just an option we’ve been loving!
Step 1: Add texture
Honestly, this hairstyle works best when your hair isn’t at its freshest. But you can always add a bit of extra texture to your hair with a sea salt spray and/or some styling cream! Some prefer to use styling products after heat has been applied; however, for beachy waves in particular, we like to get as good of a base as we can before we go in with the hot tools!

Step 2: Wave Your Hair
As we mentioned above, there are plenty of different ways to get different styles of beachy wave looks. At the moment, we’ve been loving using a hair waver, ensuring we get a consistent look every time!
First, comb out your hair with a wide-tooth comb and apply a heat protectant. Then, part your hair in however many sections you need (probably 2 or 3), working from the bottom to top. Within each section, take little sections of your hair at a time and run the waver through it, from the top to bottom of the strands. It may take a little bit of trial and error to figure out how large of sections to use through the waver. Do the same process until you reach the top! And remember – the whole point of beachy waves is to look effortless, so don’t fret if it doesn’t look perfect.

Step 3: Wait To Cool Down & Comb Out
Now, give your hair a second to cool down, if you comb it out while it’s still hot, you risk messing up your waves, and not in a good way. Once your hair is completely cooled down, you can take a comb and brush it out, allowing the waves to blend nicely together and get out any knots before the finishing touches.
Step 4: Add A Finishing Oil To Reduce Frizz
If you struggle with frizz, simply add a little bit of hair oil to keep frizz at bay and add some extra texture and shine!

Step 5: Shake It Out & Lock It In
Lastly, it’s time to add that “undone” messy look to your waves in order to give them that “beachy” appearance! Shake out your hair with your fingers until you’re happy with how it looks, then lock it all in with hair spray! And you’re done!
