Motherhood Maternity Is Set To Close All Canadian Stores

Some retailers just can’t catch a break. And the next chain on the chopping block is one for expectant mothers.

In the fall of 2019, Destination Maternity filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. As reported by Retail-Insider, at the time of filing, there were 13 Canadian stores on the long list of stores expected to close.

Since then, Destination Maternity’s name, website, and other operating assets have been acquired by Marquee Brands LLC, a company that owns brands like BCBGMAXAZRIA, Ben Sherman, Body Glove, Martha Stewart, and more.

However, it looks like all remaining stores under the Destination Maternity umbrella will close.

As part of the acquisition deal, Destination Maternity Corp. received approval to liquidate its remaining stores; a total of 235 stores across North America. The liquidations will be run by Gordon Brothers and Hilco Merchant Resources.

Canadians will see 29 Motherhood Maternity and Destination Maternity stores close.

Ontario is seeing the biggest hit, with 12 locations planned to shutter. In addition, there will be seven locations in Alberta, two in Manitoba, two in Saskatchewan, six in British Columbia, one in Nova Scotia, and one in New Brunswick.

As of right now, there are no confirmed dates of when we can expect to see the last store to close, but we’ll keep you updated as news progresses.
