As we move into colder weather, it takes a major toll on our hair and skin. Often requiring a whole new beauty regime! Winter beauty routines are all about hydration in order to combat the cold and dry air. It’s time to switch out any products that may strip the hair and skin, with the help of brisk weather conditions, for products with heavy-duty moisture. Although the perfect routine may differ from person to person, there are some products in general that we can’t imagine getting through winter without!

As the days get inevitably colder and heaters blast high heat in every indoor space imaginable, you can only imagine the potential complications this can cause for your skin.
During the summer, there is often humidity to help moisture stay within the skin and protect its barrier. However, during the cooler months, the skin can lose moisture due to the drier air and indoor heaters, ultimately causing the skin barrier to be disrupted, leading to increased sensitivity, dryness, and even irritation.
With fall underway, there’s no better time to switch up your skincare routine to ensure that your skin looks and feels healthy and happy as we head into the coldest months of the year.
As we dive headfirst into fall, adding Vitamin C to our skincare routine is a great way to repair any lingering summer skin damage, like dark spots and uneven skin tone. We love this serum from Olehenriksen, as it’s made with 15% Vitamin C, 5% PHAs, and hyaluronic acid, which instantly brighten, visibly firms, plumps skin with hydration, and reduces the appearance of dark spots, pores, and wrinkles.
While UV rays are stronger during the summer, they’re still present throughout all four seasons. Sunscreen should be used at all times to help decrease any incoming UV radiation, which accelerates and increases the risk of skin cancer. Stick to a daily SPF 30, like Summer Fridays’ Broad Spectrum Mineral Milk Sunscreen.
There’s no better time to start regularly exfoliating your skin, especially following months of added sweat, oil, and SPF. Our go-to exfoliate is this cult-favourite daily peel from Dr. Dennis Gross, which helps reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, pores, and shine.
Now that the temperatures are falling again, your skin is going to need some extra moisturizer. But stick with something relatively lightweight rather than a heavy-duty cream for the time being. You won’t want to switch to something heavier until the temperatures really start to fall. We’re loving this whipped moisturizer from Drunk Elephant, which has a lightweight yet comforting texture. Suited to all skin types, it contains a mix of ceramides and oils to nourish and soothe the skin, while minimizing any loss of hydration.
The delicate skin around your eyes is the first to feel the impact of the changing seasons, which can lead to puffiness or fine lines. Try a creamy and moisturizing eye cream like this one from Biossance. It’s hydrating, brightening, and soothing and melts into your skin.

This is the year to really perfect all of your daily routines. A proper nighttime routine can work wonders on your energy levels, your skin, and your overall mood. Taking the time to care for yourself and your needs before bed can help you get the best sleep possible, leaving you refreshed and glowing in the morning.
A couple of hours before you plan on getting cozy in bed, take a soothing bath. Use a bath soap that contains calming ingredients to create that relaxing environment to wind down before going to sleep.
Putting on a diffuser with a calming essential oil in your room before going to bed will definitely get you in the sleepy state of mind, plus, your space will smell like a spa which is always a bonus. The best essential oils for the night time are lavender, bergamot, or chamomile.
Want to wake up from a restful sleep with glowing and hydrated skin? Try out a leave on face mask to keep on your face all night long to really reap the benefits of the product.
Improve your oral hygiene in your nighttime routine. A smart toothbrush will keep you on track to get the best results possible.
Weighted blankets are known to provide the similar benefits to deep pressure therapy. This can help calm a restless body, reduce feelings of anxiety, and improve sleep troubles. Once you add a weighted blanket to your sleep regime, you’ll never reach for a regular comforter again.
A nice hot tea can make you want to get all cozy, and if it has calming ingredients like peppermint, lavender, or chamomile, then your body will slowly get relaxed and ready for a great nights sleep. Plus, drinking more fluids is always beneficial to your health and skin.
You’ve probably always heard recommendations to put away any devices before bed, and you definitely should listen to them! Your electronics and devices emit a blue light that actually restrains the production of melatonin, which makes it more difficult to fall asleep and wake up the next morning. So, leave your body to do its work and pick a good read or let go of your thoughts and write in a journal.
Switch your bedding to incorporate silk pillow cases. They have a ton of benefits like helping to prevent wrinkles with its smooth surface and keeping your skin and hair hydrated since it doesn’t absorb moisture like regular cotton pillows. Wake up looking and feeling flawless with these silk pillows cases.

Now that cannabis has been legal in Canada for just about a year and the American Congress has passed a bill to legalize the production of hemp, we’re seeing a lot more of it in products; particularly in the beauty industry and in our skincare routines. Though its CBD, (not THC), that’s being recognized as a highly effective ingredient in plant-based skincare products for its many benefits, some studies say that CBD makes an ultra-effective treatment for irritated skin.
CBD is a substance extracted from the flower and the leaves of the hemp plant, which are high in cannabinoids (a group of active chemical compounds that stimulate balance in our bodies). Unlike plain hemp seed oil, (an ingredient that’s been used in natural skincare for decades), that comes from cold pressing the seeds of the hemp plant. Interestingly enough, our skin has native receptors for cannabinoids that enable plant extracts to be fully absorbed in less than no time. These make CBD all the more effective in relieving inflammation, reducing breakouts and soothing redness.

Your makeup routine doesn’t have to break the bank!
While there are some weeks where, sure, the total worth of cosmetics on my face seeps well into the hundreds, there are also weeks when finances may be a little tighter than usual, and I’m not able to restock on my usual high-end products. But this doesn’t mean that the quality of my makeup application completely diminishes!
My experience working in beauty PR and as a certified makeup artist has led me to confirm that a lot of what you pay for when purchasing cosmetics is the branding! The price of a product doesn’t necessarily reflect the quality of the product or tool, and many drugstore products are made by the same manufacturers of high-end beauty products.
Fenty broke the internet when Rihanna released 40-shades range of foundation. I couldn’t wait to support her mission to diversify the beauty game, but I have to tip my hat off to Maybelline. Out of all the drugstore brands, I can say they’ve always had one of the widest range of shades in the drugstore market.
I’m extremely picky with my foundation, and when I’m trying to save, the Maybelline SuperStay Full Coverage Foundation is the only drugstore foundation that I feel comfortable running in and out of Shoppers to grab in a hurry. This is a fantastic dupe in terms of coverage, colour, and longevity. And it’ll save you a whole lot of cash, too!
If you’re a fan of the seasoned MAC Prolong Wear Concealer, then you’ll love the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer while saving 20 bucks! The liquid-to-creamy concealer provides great buildable coverage and a luminous finish. I like using this to brighten my under eye area. Like the Prolong Wear, it lasts for hours without creasing!
This isn’t the last time you’ll see Maybelline on this list! I told you, it’s definitely one of my favourite drugstore brands. I’m absolutely in love with one of their newest products: SuperStay Full Coverage Powder Foundation.
For years, I was willing to splurge the $60 on BECCA’s Perfect Skin Mineral Powder because of how difficult it was to find a shade deep enough to use as a contour for myself. It was a little costly considering I was using such minimal product on my face to fake some defined cheekbones. Then all of a sudden — poof! BECCA pulled my beloved product from its roster. Maybelline’s new launch of SuperStay Full Coverage Powder comes just as I needed to re-up, and it’s available in an extensive range of shades. The full coverage foundation has an awesome powder-to-creamy formula that is super blendable with a matte finish. Thanks, Maybelline!
When it comes to finishing touches, highlight is almost a necessity to any makeup obsessed doll! Sometimes its use is as minimal as using it for the teardrops of your eyes or the tip of your nose — why not save $39 on this step if you can?! I found the Wet ‘N Wild Highlighting Powder to be an exceptional dupe to the BECCA highlighter. You can easily get that blinding shine that BECCA’s offers by wetting or spritzing your brush before dabbing the powder, and VOILA —shine bright, girl.
I’ll be honest… Typically, you’ll find me with false lashes on — either lash strips or extensions. So, mascara is one product where I opt for a cheaper alternative quite regularly. I’ve been using the iconic Maybelline Great Lash since my high school days, and it’s yet to disappoint! In fact, it only seems to upgrade with new additions to its collection. I find that when I reach for the Blackest Black Maybelline Great Lash, I can’t even tell the difference between using a high-end mascara like MAC’s In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash. If you’re a lash addict like myself, save the additional $25 for your next refill!
A classic red lip is a staple beauty accessory, and I’ve sworn by MAC Ruby Woo for nearly a decade — it’s definitely my most recommended red lipstick! There’s something about a bold, matte, blue-toned, red lip that just gives me life. Maybe it’s the fact that the blue-base makes my smile extra pearly white, or that a red lip compliments nearly any outfit.
I rarely stray away from MAC Ruby Woo but I was actually pleasantly surprised with another of Maybelline products: SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipstick. This dupe blesses you with a flawless matte and intense colour at half the cost! I rarely need to reapply with this lippie as it inks your lip for up to 16 hours.
