It seems like every other day we hear about another retailer closing stores. And when a brand shuts down shop, we rarely hear about them again.

But in some special cases, a brand or retailer closes up store for something good. Case in point: The North Face.

The North Face is shutting down stores across the globe for an incredible Earth Day initiative.

But if you’re getting retail apocalypse vibes, don’t fret! The company is shutting down stores for one day only on April 22 in order to give employees the opportunity to disconnect from the internet and connect with the world.

“We believe that when people take time to appreciate the Earth, they feel more connected to it and are more likely to protect it. Explore Mode urges us to unplug from our digital lives to connect in real life to the world, each other, and ourselves in the effort to move the world forward,” Tim Bantle, The North Face’s Global General Manager of Lifestyle said in a press release.

There are six stores across Canada that will be closed for the day on April 22.

The stores include the following regular retail locations:

TNF Montreal
1247 Saint-Catherine St W, Montreal, QC H3G 1P3

TNF West Edmonton Mall
1755 8882 170 St NW Spc R219, Edmonton, AB T5T 4J2

TNF Vancouver
792 Granville St, Vancouver, BC V6Z 1E4

As well as the following outlet locations, including one in the greater Toronto area.

TNF Niagara
300 Taylor Rd, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON L0S 1J0

TNF Vaughan Mills
1 Bass Pro Mills Dr, Concord, ON L4K 5W4

TNF Mirabel
19001 Chemin Notre Dame Spc 201A, Mirabel, QC J7J 0T1

The outdoor company has also teamed up with 15 organizations across the globe to attempt to make Earth Day an officially recognized holiday — something we can totally get down with!

They’ve started a petition to put the movement in motion and give people more opportunity to explore the earth and enjoy the outdoors.

If this movement sounds like your sort of thing, you can head over to Change.org to sign the petition, which, at the time of writing, has just under 50,000 signatures!
