If you’ve already shopped your seasonal wardrobe staples yet still find your outfits are missing a little something, it probably comes down to accessorizing. You can wear the simplest outfit (think jeans and a plain sweater), and with some great accessories, it can quickly become an ultra-stylish look. This season, it’s all about accessories. And for that, we can thank the quiet luxury trend! And as simple as adding some accessories sounds, it can actually feel a little overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. So, we’ve put together a guide of accessories to shop that can easily be incorporated into your wardrobe to effortlessly upgrade your style for the upcoming months and beyond!

Chunky Jewellery

Statement jewellery has made an elevated comeback! Minimal jewellery will always be in style, but mix and layer it with some chunky jewellery pieces to add extra depth to your look. Whether it be with stand-out earrings, a thick chain necklace, or even a large watch – chunky jewellery pieces, in gold, silver, or both, will add interest and shine to your outfit.

Fashion Gloves

A post shared by Bottega Veneta (@bottegavenetaworld)

As we enter the colder months, we’ve been seeing more styling of gloves! Not to be confused with knit, practical gloves and mittens that will keep your hands warm. We’re talking opera, lace, fingerless, and leather gloves, with their sole purpose being style here. Depending on their fabrication and style, gloves can either completely elevate and make an outfit more elegant, or they can add an element of edginess and contrast.

Statement Belts

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Millie Holmes (@immillieholmes)

In recent fashion weeks, there’s been a surge of waist-accenting silhouettes, so it’s no surprise that statement belts have taken centre stage to go alongside the waist-defining trend. Invest in a statement belt to add to your outfits that could use some extra shaping (think blazers and knits), or simply pair with any bottoms that have loops! Not only do belts allow you to play around with shape and proportion, but they also add a stand-out detail to your outfit, helping to break up the clothing a bit.

Loafers

A post shared by Steve Madden (@stevemadden)

Heeled, chunky, or sleek – loafers are the shoes of the season! They’re practical, stylish, and can be styled with practically anything and everything, making an outfit look more expensive and smart.

Sock Details

A post shared by Vagabond Shoemakers (@vagabondshoemakers)

We know what you’re thinking. Socks are hardly an accessory, right? Wrong! Styling socks has become a major trend this season, and it’s one you may not even have to shop for! From plain white socks to more stylized versions, having your socks peaking out, especially while wearing a skirt or dress, is the moment right now.

Knee-High Boots

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by ALDO shoes (@aldo_shoes)

The boots of choice this season seem to be knee-highs in all shapes and forms! We love knee-high boots for styling purposes, as simply putting on a pair instantly elevates your outfit, making it high-fashion and intentional.

Caps

A post shared by Kezia Rose Cook (@keziacook)

Baseball and “Newsboy” caps are everywhere right now! Keep your head warm while still staying on-trend and stylish with the addition of your cap of choice! They give a subtle model-off-duty look thanks to their casual vibe.

Shades

A post shared by LIVIA ROSE (@liv.therose)

Don’t leave your shades behind, even in the colder months! Though it isn’t as bright out anymore, the sun still shines, and let’s face it. Sunglasses just look cool. This time of year, we prefer to opt for a darker-coloured pair with thick frames.

Go-To Bag

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by CHARLES & KEITH (@charleskeithofficial)

Upgrade your style by investing (and no, this doesn’t mean it has to be designer) in a great go-to bag that will tie together all of your outfits! Yes, bag styles may have to vary slightly depending on the occasion; however, everyone should have at least one small to medium-sized purse that can go with most outfits on a day-to-day basis that carries all the essentials (phone, wallet, keys, and gloss).

A fall staple you should definitely add to your wardrobe if you haven’t already is a great leather jacket! It’s a piece that will always remain relevant in terms of style, so you can wear it year after year. The best ones tend to be perfectly worn-in vintage options, however, we’re also loving this one from Mango in case you’re not up for the hunt!

A post shared by Ingrid Fagerli Edvinsen (@ingridedvinsen)

Loafers are a footwear staple that will never go out of style, and this fall they are having an especially big moment! Specifically chunky loafers or ones with a hint of colour (think dark burgundy). Paired with a pair of white or lace socks creates a look of academia perfection.

Black Jeans

If you want to wear a casual jeans outfit, but simply elevate it a bit – black jeans are the way to go! They add an extra element of sleekness in contrast to a pair of blue jeans and are so easy to style on a day-to-day basis. Invest in a great pair of straight-leg black jeans for this fall and they’ll soon become your favourite pants to wear!

Universal Blazers

Sorry to break it to you, but business casual to the club is back. Blazers that can take you from work to drinks with friends are an essential wardrobe staple this fall! Go for one that feels universal, in the way where it can be styled up or down in a multitude of ways.

Vintage-Style Slips

Slip tops and dresses, especially the ones that look like they can also be worn to bed, are becoming such a staple piece to style! For fall, they can easily be worn with a cardigan or blazer, and if it’s a slip-dress, a pair of tights and chunky boots will automatically make it feel fall-appropriate.

Ballet Flats

Waistcoats have been a trending fashion piece pretty much all year, and it’s going to remain to be a staple for this fall, too! Opposed to summer styling, worn on its own, now the move is to either wear with a matching suit or layered on top of a button-up or long-sleeved shirt.

If you’re the kind of gal whose known to forget her scarf at home, this trend was made for you. This practical outerwear trend features a built-in scarf that doubles as both a stylish embellishment and extra protection from the cold.

The Oversized Leather

While leather jackets are always in style – especially during fall – this year it’s all about edgier and heavier styles. While you can surely pick one up from your favourite designer, we recommend hitting up a local vintage store to find the perfect piece that’s it-girl-approved – plus you can feel good about hunting down the ultimate second-hand find.

The Upgraded Trench

A post shared by Emma Rose (@emmaleger)

For the edgier gals, a sleek leather trench is definitely a must-have this season. While you can keep it classic with an all-black leather trench, those looking for a bolder look can opt for an alternate colourway like tan, emerald green, or navy blue.

The Menswear Blazer

A post shared by Jenn Bae (@baeverlyheels)

This season, bigger really is better when it comes to blazers. Look for classic hues like black, grey, and even pinstripes that put a major emphasis on the shoulders, but if you’re feeling bold and want to rock a brighter hue or a funky print, just be sure to keep the rest of your outfit simple so the blazer can be the focal point. We also love making this trend more feminine by cinching the waist with a chic belt.

The (Faux) Fur Lined

A post shared by Show Me Your Mumu (@showmeyourmumu)

If you want to embrace your inner 70s fashionista this fall, a long or mid-length coat that’s furry-collared and cuffed is exactly what you need to make a serious statement.

The Shearling

A post shared by Arielle Charnas (@ariellecharnas)

There’s nothing better for fall than a cozy shearling coat. While you can go the full shearling route, as seen above on Arielle Charnas, this season you’ll also be able to find different variations like shearling trimmed options for an elevated yet edgy look.

The Bomber

A post shared by Topshop (@topshop)

Whether you prefer a solid hue or a colour-blocked varsity style, bomber jackets are a great outerwear option to wear this fall, especially on milder days. However, when the temps drop even further, we love the look of a bomber styled over a hoodie for an effortlessly stylish look.

Fall is here, and it’s the perfect time for a day trip out of the city. Whether you’re looking for a seasonal outing with the fam or a wholesome way to spend a Saturday or Sunday with pals, these fall fairs in the GTA have what you need to get into the fall spirit. Bundle up and set out for some pumpkin-picking, treat-sampling, photo ops, and memory-making.

Here are some fall festivals in the GTA to make a day trip out of this fall.

Waterford’s Pumpkinfest

Every year for 40 years, the town of Waterford (just over an hour’s drive from Toronto) transforms for Pumpkinfest. Most houses here go all out with spooky decor, making it a true spectacle. The festival features some fairly epic jack-o-lantern towers, a marketplace, midway, parade, soap box derby, beer garden, and more. The event runs Oct. 14 – 16th.

Port Elgin’s Pumpkinfest

If you’re up for a bit of a trek (2 and a half – 3 hours drive from Toronto), Port Elgin’s Pumpkinfest offers a true fall festival experience, complete with giant vegetable competitions, a classic car show, a petting zoo, a midway, and local vendors. Plan your trip for the weekend of October 1 – 2.

The Woodbridge Fair

For over 170+ years, the Woodbridge Fall Fair has brought together families and vendors from all over the province. Come out the weekend of Oct. 8, 9, 10th to spend a day during Thanksgiving weekend antiquing, homemade pie sampling, midway exploring, and witnessing the farmer Olympics.

The Caledonia Agricultural Society has hosted this annual seasonal fair for 150 years, which includes livestock shows, home craft exhibitions, midway rides, a marketplace, and all manner of local vendors.

The Fall Festival at Brantwood Farms

This local family-run farm in Brantford celebrates the fall season each year with hay rides (haunted and non-haunted options), corn mazes, fall games for kids, and apple picking. You won’t find better homespun fall treats than at this marketplace. The fall festival runs each weekend throughout  September and October.

Complete with Bavarian communal tables and benches imported from Germany, German food and drinks, dancing, and entertainment, it gives an authentic taste of the season in Germany. Be one of the first 500 people to arrive and get yourself a free German glass beer stein.

Blue Mountain’s Apple Harvest Weekend

Did you know Blue Mountain is Ontario’s largest apple-growing region? The highest point of the Niagara Escarpment, this section of the region provides the perfect microclimate for apple growing. Hence, apple season is a big deal around here. Come and celebrate all things apple Oct. 7 – 10th, when the town is alive with celebrations. Make it a weekend if you can, and tack on a spa moment or two.

But after being spotted on countless designer runway shows, it’s an item you’re going to want to wear a lot more frequently.  Style your favourite simple white tank with denim or cargo pants for a casual day look to styling for a night out with a long skirt, the options are endless.

Over-Sized Blazers

While no wardrobe is complete without a timeless blazer, this season is all about strong, powerful, oversized silhouettes. The best part about this trend is that it’s extremely versatile. Whether you’re heading to yoga in a matching workout set, to the office, or out for a night on the town, throw on an oversized blazer for an effortlessly cool look.

Plaid Patterns

Nothing says ‘fall staple’ quite like plaid. This season, to give the traditional print some edge, try mixing it with fur, sequins, or silk for a bolder look. However, if you’re looking to ease into this timeless trend, try styling a plaid skirt with a turtleneck and a pair of boots for a timeless yet chic look.

Just in time for rainy, gloomy season, Hunter brings bright colors to Toronto, as the iconic rubber boots company opens its first North American store at Yorkdale shopping centre.

The UK-based fashion brand has already opened two stores worldwide – in London and Tokyo. When it came to North America, the company had no doubts that the next location should be in Toronto, crowned one of the fastest-growing and multicultural cities in the world.

Photo: Julia Melcher

According to Vincent Wauters, Hunter’s CEO, the “pioneering spirit” of the Torontonians resonates the most with the brand. Toronto’s unique, young, vibrant and diverse population reflects the core brand’s values making the city the perfect location to introduce Hunter’s colorful aesthetic and clean practical design that never goes out of style.

The first Hunter store in Northern America looks very different from the other high-end fashion outlets at Yorkdale and deserves special attention. Hunter’s in-house interior design team did a good job designing the 2,800 square feet space that imitates the real sky, contemporary barn architecture and the Scottish landscape, the elements of the Hunter’s world. According to the brand, the interior elements will be changed seasonally.

Photo: Julia Melcher

At the opening first visitors were trying on Hunter’s versatile down jackets, raincoats, winter parkas, iconic rubber and snow boots and backpacks in different colors, including a special version of the rubberized leather backpack in Canadian colours. The limited edition backpack (there are just 20 available!) was designed specifically to celebrate Canada 150 anniversary. (See the photo below.)

A special wall was dedicated to the all-time favorite bestseller of the brand – original rubber boots. First designed in 1956, the iconic boots would seem to be settled in every wardrobe and even presented as a piece of art in NY Museum of Art and Design.

Not a lot of people know that Hunter boots have been assembled manually since 1856.

Vincent Wauters explained in an interview with StyleDemocracy that every boot is carefully handmade with special attention to details and quality and that makes these shoes so durable and the design so lasting.

“People don’t realize the level of craftsmanship that goes into assembling a pair of Hunter boots,” says Wauters. “It takes 10 hours to make one pair.”
