The iconic fashion brand Kate Spade has sadly shuttered doors at its iconic Yorkville flagship. The store has resided at 138 Cumberland Street since June of 2013.

Apparently, the company was leasing the space month-to-month, and since the closing, there have already been retailers very interested in the spot.

The ex-Kate Spade flagship store is quite the location. The space is two levels and about 4,000 square feet, making it the ideal spot to have carried the array of beautiful designer bags, apparel, and accessories.

When the company took over the Cumberland location, it was during a time of major expansion all across the country. It really is rather sad to see that it was at such a peak not very long ago.

For those who didn’t know, New York City-based Tapestry Inc., formerly known as Coach, actually bought the Kate Spade brand back in 2017. It’s also been quite open to the fact that the quirky and vibrant brand has struggled to captivate the younger audience with its merchandise.

BREAKING NEWS! Famous fashion designer Kate Spade has been found dead in New York in an apparent suicide, law enforcement officials were told to WNBC Tuesday.

Kate Spade, 55, was found in her Park Avenue apartment by her housekeeping staff, they reported. Her death was apparently caused by hanging, WNBC reported. A note was found nearby, but the contents of the note are not public right now.

The designer was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and created her own line of handbags in the 1990s and then introduced both jewellery and clothing. “She went on to sell her business to Liz Claiborne (which later changed its name to Fifth & Pacific in 2012) in 2006.”

She was married to her husband Andy, who she met while she was studying at Arizona State University. The couple has a 13-year old daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade. Andy is the brother of actor and comedian David Spade.

“Last year, Coach, now known as Tapestry, bought the Kate Spade brand in a $2.4 billion deal. Fashion house Tapestry saw its shares dip more than 2 percent on the news and were last falling less than 1 percent.”
