“As legalization takes effect, this strategic partnership gives us an opportunity to reach millions of Canadians and generate awareness around the impacts of using cannabis and driving,” said Adam Blinick, Director of Public Policy and Communications for Uber Canada.

This will hopefully discourage people from driving high.

We’ve been dealing with this irritating problem for a while but finally, Toronto air travel authorities have some good news today for locals who’d rather take an Uber home from the airport rather than spending extra money on a limo or taxi. I’m excited to announce ride-sharing services are now officially permitted at Pearson International Airport.

Starting today, anyone who gets off a plane at Canada’s largest airport can order a regular UberX or Lyft ride to pick them up on the Arrivals Level at Terminals 1 and 3 — making our lives a LOT easier!

“Following significant demand from our passengers, we believe that a pilot of full-ride sharing options is timely at Toronto Pearson, and in line with other airports across Canada and the U.S. already offering this service,” said GTAA Vice President Scott Collier in a press release on Tuesday.

“We appreciate the collaboration of the ground transportation industry in sharing their feedback and welcome another opportunity to offer our passengers choice in their transportation options.”

Ride-sharing tech company Uber has recently released a statement saying that the testing of autonomous cars in Toronto, Pheonix, San Fransico and Pittsburgh is on pause.  This news comes after a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred last night in Tempe Arizona.

CBC is reporting that the pause is due to the indications that a self-driving Uber Vehicle in Tempe struck a woman who was walking on the street leaving her with fatal injuries. The self-driving car was in autonomous mode with a human behind the wheel but nonetheless ended up being involved in an accident.

According to the report, the vehicle was travelling northbound when a female walking outside the designated crosswalk area crossed the road from west to east and was fatally struck.

The New York Times is reporting that this may be the first known fatality involving a pedestrian.

Popular tech based website Tech Crunch is reporting that Uber announced that tipping will be added to the rider app and will roll out to 121 cities, including major centres in Canada.

For consumers, Uber is making it clear that tipping will be optional, and customers will only be prompted to tip after they rate the drive. Additionally, you will be able to tip a driver up to 30 days after the trip and 7 days after an UberEATS delivery. While work advocates are touting that this is a great step in improving Uber driver conditions, customers are pointing out the bad:

The list of Canadian cities where tipping begins rolling out is included below for reference:

  • Calgary (AB)
  • Edmonton (AB)
  • London (ON)
  • Toronto (ON)
  • Windsor (ON)

With memories of $6 Uber Pool rides haunting us, our credit cards have taken a massive hit.

Sure, you could resort to taking transit or, dare we say it, using your feet to get you places, but sometimes summoning Uber is easier.

Luckily, we’ve figured out a way to get you a free $15 Uber ride so that you can keep some of your hard-earned cash right where it belongs… In your wallet.

Uber recently partnered with Google Maps and now, on Android and iOS devices, you can request an Uber directly through the app. First-time Uber x Google Maps users can get up to $15 free.

All you need to do is download the Google Maps app, if you don’t already have it. Once you’ve opened the app, type in your destination, and in the area where you choose if you’re traveling by car, transit, or foot, click the waving man icon.

If you’ve never claimed the offer, you may be prompted to input your Uber account information. Afterwards an offer for a $15 credit will pop-up and voila! Free ride!

Will you take a free Uber ride this week?
