If you’re a fan of Japanese variety stores like Miniso, or dollar store products that make you say WTF?, you’re in for a treat. There’s a massive Japanese general store coming to Toronto that will give you access to thousands of unique, high-quality, authentic imported goods. Oomomo is the newest international retailer with plans for a massive Canada-wide expansion, including the GTA.
Currently, Oomomo has one Canadian location in West Edmonton Mall, where it has seen major success, offering everything from kawaii school supplies, ceramics, stationery, kitchenware, and so much more. But, the one thing that sets Oomomo apart from stores like Miniso, is that the retailer carries Daiso, an incredibly popular “100-yen” lifestyle brand with over 2,400 stores in Japan.
As of now, Daiso only has a single location in Canada in Richmond, B.C., so the expansion of Oomomo will make the beloved brand way more accessible. In fact, according to the company rep, about 50% of Oomomo’s retail space is merchandised with Daiso products – that’s more than enough random items for every shopper, especially since Oomomo is planning to open approximately 20 to 30 locations across Canada.
If that isn’t enough to excite you, the next slew of stores slated to open will see two locations within the GTA: one at Don Mills and Lawrence, and the other planned for Markham. According to PR reps, the Don Mills store, located near the Shops of Don Mills, will be massive with an estimated 13,000 square feet, and an open date set for December 8th.
A quote taken from the website of the Edmonton Oomomo store reads, “We aim to introduce our first-time customers to new products that might only be found in Japan, as well as explain much of our packaging to customers which are often times written in Japanese, rather than English.” The statement continued on to say that new stock is continually coming in every week exclusively from Japan, with a final statement of, “The trendy items sold in the variety of shops in Japan can now all be found at Oomomo.”
Mark your calendars for December 8th and head over to the Oomomo store on Don Mills; we’re excited to see what you think!
